This would be really good to have. Most of my name changes were me just changing the casing of my in game name (uppercase to lowercase back and forth)

Love the idea! I used to make terrible names myself so I completely understand

Awesome idea! When my parents bought me Minecraft and tried using my real life name. Since, it wasn't available, they used frustating numbers and I hated it! Afterwards, I noticed name change available and changed my name.

Why isn't this a thing yet? Third-party apps should not be able to view/share your past usernames. You changed your username for a reason.

I 100% agree. I used to make really terrible usernames which people use to MOCK me. It's annoying and I WISH this was a feature. I really wish that at one point this will be added.

I think this a good idea as if you don't want someone to see your old username that you didn't like you should also making the info public makes it worse as someone people are really insecure about their old names and that's why they changed their name in the first place

I absolutely agree, third party apps should not be able to look into past name history, people such as streamers, youtubers, or content creators or even a normal person's privacy should be respected with the changes of names and not dug into by it. NameMC doesn't even have the ability to hide your profile once you claim it either and it kinda takes your privacy away since you changed your name for a reason but no longer have the option to be private.

Good idea that must be reviewed by the devs.
    Explanations has no-need for me.

This would be amazing to have.

My account got hacked some years ago. And as things are now, I just can't get rid of usernames of that hacker. They forever haunt my history. Man, I would love to get rid of it.

I agree. Old nicks should be removable. Some time ago, a hacker broke into my account and set strange account names. I hope mojang will add such options e.g. when migrating accounts to microsoft.

I'd hope so, but it seems a bit unlikely considering many have been crying to Microsoft for the ability to remove the sensitive information that's displayed on the login screen (Real name/email address) and it's visible to people while using a portable device in public or on a shared computer.

It's also worth mentioning that, just because Customer Support can remove names that contain "Personally Identifiable Information", that doesn't mean this suggestion should be ignored by Mojang. If they don't want users to be able to clear their own name history (i.e. because some players may abuse that), they should at least change this, in my opinion, ridiculous policy about PII and allow support agents to remove any username should the user request it, or at least if they can provide a good reason for deletion.

Currently, if you want a name removed from your history, there is literally no hope for you unless it contains your full name (both full first and last name, no exceptions, support may not even believe you if you tell them it is) or your home address (probably including street name and post code, which sounds crazy).

This would be amazing to have! I hate looking at my old usernames and I get so embarrassed.

I agree. I'm afraid to play Minecraft with my friends because my account name from years ago will be published in NameMC. I would be embarrassed if my friends saw my old account name.

    Yes!

I think keeping public logs of usernames is pretty useless, server bans and things like that can just be handled through your UUID.

I would be very happy if it is possible to delete old names: D

It has almost been six years since name changing became publicly available and I am very surprised Mojang has done nothing about this. There are people out there, in many cases minors, who have faced real problems in their daily lives as a result of a previous username with bullying, threats, harassment and doxing being just some of them.

By not allowing players to have control over what appears in their name history, Mojang does in fact contribute to making these players insecure and vulnerable to such attacks by players with malicious intent. This is especially obvious when one takes into account Mojang Support’s lack of support when it comes to removing names from an account’s history which in itself is an indication they endorse this serious privacy and security threat.

I feel the title of this should be changed to mention that the idea is for Java Edition’s username history feature. Some players might think this is about Bedrock Edition...

Nova "inkycatz" Barlow Could you add “Java Edition” to the title of the thread to make it more specific?

I feel like we should be able to remove them X months or years after changing from it, that way it would be harder to ban evade or get your account lost if it was hacked.

Considering UUIDs exist, there's pretty much no point to store past usernames.

it is Mojang that made username history public, not 3rd party sites. Anyone can use the official Mojang API in order to get certain info about Java accounts. Some of this info includes the UUID, current username, username history, current skin and current cape (if any) of every player. Sites such as namemc simply make this info much easier to view and will also cache skins and capes, in case the player stops using them (Mojang’s API only allows you to view skins and/or capes of a player if they are currently being used). Contacting these sites to remove such info is thus pointless as they are not the ones making it publicly available.

Anyway, I do believe the current information of every user should stay public, as long as they have the right to get past names of theirs removed (officially, from the Mojang API), even if they’ll have to do that through account support (few people have managed to convince reps to remove names in the past, but the current policies have made that almost impossible nowadays). Although accounts with rare usernames and/or capes do often get targeted as a result of sites like namemc, it is the player’s responsibility to secure their account(s). When it comes to past usernames, however, there is nothing the player can do to remove personally identifiable information and this is where, in my opinion, Mojang needs to step in.
