    I think it should be a guaranteed drop as a reward for conquering the monument. Maybe drowned armed with tridents should still be able to drop it, albeit with a lower chance

    The trident can be very powerful, so it would make sense if it were a little harder to acquire. Maybe instead of having so many materials, though, the three that spawn naturally (if I’m right) all drop a broken piece of the trident.

    They should definitely be limited to ocean monuments. Ocean monuments used to be relevant if you wanted to build underwater because sponges were the only "efficient" way to get rid of water source blocks. Conduits destroyed the need to do that. And tridents are such versatile weapons they really should be harder to get.

    I agree that the Elder Guardians should drop trident pieces. I like the Idea of each Elder dropping one piece of a broken trident so that one monument would give you one trident. Normal guardians could also drop an item that could be used to repair a trident, if killed by a player. If you want to make tridents more rare they should be much more durable.
