Make Zombie Pigmen More Forgiving

As of currently Zombie Pigmen are way too powerful. I accidentally swiped one while fighting a Blaze, and now I can never return to that area again, otherwise they're just gonna mob me again. People say if you get far enough away they reset after a time, but that has never been the case for me. They always re-aggro when I come back. They're way too many to fight and they do too much damage, even with enchanted iron armor. Am I doing something wrong, or is it a bug, or what?
