I had this idea as well, but I thought that they could also do some actual placing and breaking blocks. For instance, in the case of a creeper exploding one of the buildings, a carpenter would slowly fix it. The block related to them could also be the wood equivalent of the stonecutter block.

I had the exact same thought of a wood working villager, but I would like to see different variants in wooden doors and trapdoors as well if they ever add a wood worker. And maybe the villager could trade saplings, sticks and leaves for emeralds. I would love that, I have so many sticks and saplings in my survival world. 💚

My thoughts are similar, only with them trading objects made of wood based on their village construction, in a desert they would trade jungle doors, but in snowy tundra it would be spruce doors and so on allowing you to repair and replicate the architecture.

    Fantastic suggestion imo.

The only thing that I am constantly needing to grind more of is wooden planks - particularly for chests (eight wood for a single hopper becomes expensive), but as well for building blocks as I love the aesthetic. Where I have nearly everything else automated in my world from iron to melons, WOOD is the only resource that has not been reliably farm-able without making an incredibly complex system of pistons and TNT dupes - let alone needing unlimited saplings and bone-meal. Quite the undertaking.

Having a woodcutter villager selling chests, planks, saplings and logs would be an incredible asset to my world. Higher tier trades could even include campfires or rarer leaf-types.

I would also like a villager that I could sell off the large amount of iron axes that I assemble from trading with tool-smiths and weapon-smiths. A woodcutter needs axes, but lets not break the economy by allowing the player to buy an axe from one villager just to trade it to another for your emeralds back. I suggest: Sell an axe *and* some emeralds to a woodcutter for a handful of logs.

I'm not a fan of restricting wood-types to be biome specific, but instead should be a random roll. This way village management can include shuffling your woodcutter to get the trades you want, like other professions.

TL;DR: Wood is hard to automate, and I would love to buy it with emeralds.

A new profession means a new job site block:

Like the stone mason have the stonecutter, the wood worker could have the woodcutter which recipe in the crafting grid would be almost the same materials and placing like the stonecutter, but instead 3 stones would be 3 of whether logs, woods, stems and hyphae, stripped or not. Having the same mechanic as the stonecutter that crafts slabs, and stairs (it's supposable to include the walls but there are no walls made of wood; could be fences but neither the nether fences are crafted in the stonecutter) would be a place to craft wood-related blocks in smaller and more precise quantities than crafting.

And I kind of had the idea of it working at station being a side table because making stairs is expensive you can make stone stairs very cheaply but you can't make wood stairs cheaply so if they do add in a woodworking or lumberjack villager they should have the workstation be I saw a table just like there's a stone cutter for Stone

Or instead of a woodcutter just call it a sawmill and make a carpenter profession. Mojang really missed the opportunity with the stonecutter and mason, they could have added the same thing but with wood, and it would've been an even better update. There is no downside to a sawmill.

ps:(I'm posting this here because I thought about the sawmill and the carpenter profession but couldn't decide in what category to post it, and I know I'm mainly talking about the work station but this is the only place to talk about it that I found)

Yeah that's what I was kind of talking about to I just couldn't think of a good name to call it or really what to call it

Rather than a sawmill or a woodcutter block, why not just make it a chopping block? it would look like a vertical half-log with an axe stuck into it, and maybe some shears on the side. It would be craftable with one wood log and an axe.

Could have a workbench with some chisels on it for a job block. That itself could be a good excuse if Mojang wants to add a block that’s like the stonecutter, but for wood. I like the idea that these villagers would be patching up the doors when we aren’t looking.
