Easy solution. ‘/gamemode creative’ then repair lmao.

The solution is bad for players who play survival mode without cheats.

I don’t believe it should be outright removed however it should be tweaked. Mending is important, it eliminates the problem all together but it’s all based up to chance. I’ve been fishing every day for about a week now and I haven’t gotten a mending book. Perhaps allow for an upgraded anvil which allows you to take the cap higher or infinitely. Make it expensive, 7 netherite ingots organized in an I shape. Endgame seems boring because often times you are unable to fix your equipment, my netherite boots were the first to break. They have every enchantment beside mending for boots and when it game time to repair I can no longer do so. In an endgame where I can’t max out seems un fun. Your either hopelessly fishing for mending or not doing anything altogether. Another idea I like is removing the repair growth costs, make it cap at 40 each time you repair. Making it hard but not impossible. Many games allow for a maxed out character and it’s fun cause your OP.
    TLDR
Have a netherite anvil which increases the xp cap or removes the too expensive effects. Perhaps make repairs cap at 40 each time you wish to do so. And that I think is a solution everyone can get behind.

I agree since I can't get mending on my bow since I have infinity on it, I have no way of repairing it with this annoying mechanic in the way.

I 100% agree with this. There are ways to work around this (I got a bow with all enchantments and it only costs 8 levels to repair)(I can leave a link to a video describing this if you'd like), so it doesn't make sense that people that know the incredibly complicated way to enchant get to have gear with max enchants. This feature has no reason to be in the game. Even if you have an op enderman/ pigman/ etc. farm, I still takes a while to get above level 50 or 60. This feature is uncalled for and has literally no reason to be in the game.

Mojang pls it became nearly impossible to have a heavily enchanted item last long or even have some decent enchantments unless you use a underhanded method like deleting game files or enchanting with a weird strategy and someone new to enchanting could get lost and do something wrong which will cause that person or persons to get angry and delete the game and the game will lose popularity

If its easy to get xp, whats the problem with having you use xp to do stuff like enchanting

The "Too Expensive" feature is an easy way to ruin any survival playthrough. I made some boots with all the enchantments I wanted except for one, right when I got to the last enchantment it became "Too Expensive." This feature is just absurd, let us decide what is too expensive for us. Also, if you are worried about balance issues then it could be a gamerule that servers could set to prevent someone from getting OP gear. However, in normal survival it should be set to none which means we can get as overpowered as we want. This is one of the key reasons why I try to avoid a survival playthrough, and even if you disenchant the item it will sometimes remain "too expensive." That means you would need to grind for a new piece of that gear in order to get any enchantments on it.

Maybe there should be a mechanic to unlock a tool's "potential" by using a new resource or some kind of new enchanting mechanic.

Being able to add like every possible enchant to somthing would be oo, so instead of an item being to expensive at 40 levels I think it should be 100, so it's not too op

I hope they remove this feature when 1.17 or the new snapshot will get released, it is the worst and I hate it

I agree! I made a book for maxed out boots and I was about to see how many levels I would need to put it on them and it's too expensive! So now I have to get rid of the maxed out book I just spent hours on bc it's too expensive to put on anything. Definitely one of the most annoying and limiting mechanics of the game.  :(

That would become overpowered on armors, on swords wont such a problem, but on bows just imagine mending and infinity togheder then add power 5 and instant damage 2 arrows, i suggest only on repairing items to don't be a xp tax, that would be good for everyone and maybe after the 40 xp limit make it double the xp cost at every enchant added, that would make the items less easy to be made over powered

GET RID OF THE ANVIL XP CAP

The use cap is annoying and makes it so you cant get good tools or armor unless you do a certain method i just tried to make my netherite tools better but its told that it's too expensive, i got 200 levels so what is too expensive?! i don't have what to do with the levels and i just want to upgrade my tools. so please delete it, it's so annoying.

(thats a copy off my post about it, i think that it is really annoying and they need to remove this feature).

This too expensive feature ruins the damn game cause I am able to get the exp I need to combine or repair my tools and I can't because this useless game mechanic. I shouldn't need to enchant all my stuff in a certain order to get everything I want on the tool, the mechanic doesn't make the game any more balanced it just makes me irritated. I would go as far as spending double the resources or exp to fix and enchant stuff cause it would be worth it. I've had to give up on the infinity enchantment for bows because with mending I don't need to repair it so infinity has become obsolete.

In a no cheats survival server, i made an enchanted book that has all enchants needed for a sword. Yet i can't apply it. Average xp that i have i LITERALLY 60 +, HOW IS IT TOO EXPENSIVE. Originally, i thought this was a calculation bug, since I only knew that this existed in creative when the required xp level goes over 219000. But on survival for over 30 xp? At least make it so that it happens over 100 xp. Thank you.

Yes it makes no sense i somehow made a bow that's 100,000,000 XP somehow to repair

I agree with this idea. I have 179 XP levels in my world and I really want to put Soul Speed (and maybe Thorns) on my boots.

I honestly think its too overpowered, you can beat the game so easily. Also when you beat the enderdragon, you're supposed to get that much XP because you literally beat the game and that is one of the ultimate rewards. About monster grinders, I don't think the developers really meant for that to be there, it was just the community being...well, the community and there creative ways.

Agreed, if the levels get astronomical so be it... Means we just have to work that much harder to combine that awesome enchanted book we made with our own sweat and tears to that amazing tool we died 4 times in lava for while sourcing it's diamonds... Please lift the too expensive mechanic. It makes no sense.

I really hope this mechanic is removed because even with the diffrence of what order you put enchantments on something it will show this, example if you dont put sharpness on last you cant make a "God Sword"

I know why Mojang added Mending after the too expensive feature...it was to mock the Og players who have protection V blast projective fire are all merged into a god armor and after theyve repaired it to max enough times its now slowly withering away to allow for new players a chance to make a life for them selves with proper prep and patience...which honestly most human beings lack these days with all the instant gratification of knowledge at your finger tips its power having corrupted absolutely the moral fiber of patients as a virtue...or heck Mojang wanted to equal the playing field for newbies lol

I completely agree with this. The "Too Expensive!" restriction is needlessly aggravating and should be removed. There's no reason for a sandbox game like Minecraft to put such a restriction on its players. If you can earn the experience points required, then you should be able to enchant and repair your items as much as you like. If anything, it would make the game more enjoyable, and the sentimental attachment to the tools you create would become stronger as a result.
