Make bedrock layer 1-block thick.

I always thought the 5-block thick bedrock layer at the bottom of the overworld and top of the nether ought to only be a 1-block thick solid layer. I hate when ores get stuck within the fractured bedrock, not to mention the lava and stone. This would also increase potential build height by 4 blocks. Let's face it, the bedrock only serves one purpose; of preventing players from falling into the void, 1 layer would accomplish this (and look so much cleaner).

    why are you mining down at bedrock anyway?

    I'm not. I just think it should be possible so that you can access any and all ores that happen to generate among the bedrock, and so that you can have max build height.
