The render distance for entities is currently set to a fixed value. If you get far away from an entity such as a mob or a chest, it no longer renders, even if it is within your render distance. The player should be able to adjust the distance that entities are rendered up to. An alternative to this is to make it so that entities render if they are at any distance from the player within the player's render distance. Allowing entities to render at larger distances will allow for more immersive gameplay.
