I really thought of this as a DS and DSi Homebrewer.  Thing is, thehardware is just too weak, for anything playable.  They would struggle with even the earliest, most basic versions.

The DS Lite has a 67 MHz ARM9 CPU and a coprocessor, a 33 MHz ARM7.  It's got 4 MB of RAM, and 256K flash on the device.  The original DS had essentially the same performance.  They have 2 screens, 256x192 resolution, and even with the DS Memory Expansion Pak, brought the DS up to 10 MB of "RAM".  The DS game cards ranged from 4 MB to 512 MB max, which isn't a lot for today.

Then there's the DSi.  Now you're getting into a handheld with SD card support.  Better, right?  Still discontinued.  Also, lets see the specs for your DSi rig:

CPU: ARM9 cpu (again), this time, clocked at a motherboard-frying 133 MHz, and the 33 MHz ARM7, for backwards compatibility with DS games.

RAM: 16 MB, 4x that of the DS, but no "Expansion Pak" for this one.

    Displays: Same as DS, 256x192

Storage: 256 MB flash, plus SD card.

So, as cool as it would be, those rigs are discontinued, and don't have the hardware required.

The DS, DSi, DS Lite systems are too outdated and wouldn't be capable of running Minecraft. Very few people use the DS systems at all anymore and the 3DS will be turning 10 years old in just a few years, you really need to get a new system.

The hardware wouldn't allow for this - the 3DS was enough trouble for them to port as it is. Also, the controls wouldn't really work, unless the bottom screen was some sort of mouse-pad. It really would just be impossible.

Um...how does it make any sense at all to make DS versions of this game? They came out in 2004. Why port a game that came out in 2009 to a console that was already nearing its end by the time it came out?

On top of that, the system is 15 years old now. If you are even old enough to have a DS in the first place, you are guaranteed to be old enough to by the 3DS, or even the Switch, seeing as the 3DS is dying too.

In other words, I think this DS suggestion just wasn't thought through well, especially since there are 2 more recent portable systems that are actually supported by the same company.

...honestly, why develop for the DS at all? That console is ancient by now. What you're asking for is simply ludicrous.
