Maybe not a normal 🧭 but rather a harder to craft nether compass but let’s face it... the compass & clock are underused

good idea, but make it point to the nearest activated portal, not the entry portal.

just wanted to add on, that since compasses point to spawn in the over world, shouldn't it point to your bed? unless destroyed, then of which it will point to your original spawn instead?

I was just about to post on this.  This would definitely be helpful to players exploring the Nether Update.  However, I have a little different take on this compass to suggest.  Rather than have the compass automatically point to the nearest portal or the portal you just came out of, the player could right-click a lit portal (not the obsidian frame), and the compass will target that portal of their choosing.  As far as obtaining it, it could be crafted with something rare, or even with the pre-existing Nether Star (so that it has more crafting options than just a Beacon).  Or, it could be in a Fortress chest, so you wouldn't get it just yet on your first trip(s) to the Nether, but in further travels.
