How do you propose people do not abuse the "vote down" feature?

Personally, I think it would help if you couldn't vote (either up or down) from the browsing page.  That way people can't vote until they've at least clicked on the topic.  You can't force people to read before voting, but that would help.

Another thing that would help downvotes be more constructive would be to strongly encourage people to comment with a downvote.  Maybe even require it, but that might lead to spam.  People can reasonably upvote without leaving a comment because they like the request as it is stated.  But people who dislike the idea have a reason why they dislike it, and it would be helpful to suggest that they express that reason.  Although some are so absurd that it's hard to say anything without being mean about it. x3

    ... Exactly.

Update: We are trying out only showing the vote button on the post page, not the main list of posts.

@Nova that is an excellent idea. Will the vote counter still be visible from the main page?

    Already is. :)

Looks great! Although I will note that the vote counters still say "0 vote" on the main page but "1 votes" inside posts. It's so hard for me not to notice such things :P

I'm not sure the difference between 0 and 1 vote is going to make a huge difference, but that being said, we haven't been able to replicate this issue on freshly posted items. (Just checked it in the gameplay section.)

No, there's no issue of miscounted votes, it's the grammar that's the issue :) It's two separate grammar errors, sorry about the lack of clarity.

We should not have the access to vote on our own ideas.

Here are some interesting things I have read about downvoting, since it has now come up as a new thread (which was routed here, so hi!):

And if you really want to drill into theory about voting and communities, and maybe you do and maybe you don't, but this is the sort of stuff I read on my free time, so:

But really, this really comes down to "what is right for our community?" and while I am well read and open minded, there's likely an answer that works for us that may not be such a "yes/no" type of system. I'm always up for continuing the discussion though.

Also, I really wouldn't mind seeing StarKittychu  expand on that comment, because I'm curious why people shouldn't be able to vote for their own ideas.
