If lakes are added oceans should be made rarer to balance things out

And the lakes should be an own biome with vegetation.

There could be a lakes biome that has lots of lakes and some new stuff

Why not a lake inside a plains biome instead of those holes that are max 10x10 and you just fall inside them all the time?

Lakes would definitely be best as a Biome. Leeches would be an interesting addition to lakes, and maybe ducks as well.

There would be Perch-fish in lakes biome

Maybe there would be new mobs like

    shrimp

    crabs

    turtles (a different type)

    eels

    and maybe treasure?

Deeper lakes could have sunken villages, 1.13 and prior in style. It would be really cool if in these sunken villages lived the gillagers, (From category Humanoids, NPCs) villagers that look like drowned, but have a more greenish texture, and of course, gills to breathe under water. There you would find shipwreck loot, and buried treasure stuff. They would be rarer than villages, since they have shipwreck and  buried treasure loot.

I think it be a nice opportunity to add some exclusive wild life to it too,  like maybe catfish?

Maybe underground lakes as well? Would be cool for a cave update.

I do really want some more 'beach' atmosphere areas. A foggy, rocky lakeside would be cool.

Its an excellent idea! Maybe there could be a new way of "freshwater wildlife" and plats around those ponds. Frogs may come in an later update, ponds would be a nice spawning area along with swamps.

I sometimes see lakes that are like more than 6 blocks deep. But they are just small oceans.

Yeah rivers could connect to a lake with a waterfall. This would be amazing.

I think a weird problem minecraft has are the random divots of water it has scattered throughout its biomes (most evident in plains). it looks SUPER ugly too. if we could just have lakes as their own separate biome/?structure? that could actually blend well with the rest of the biome it's in, and make these tiny patchwork water sources as their own biomes too with actual like spawning regulations VS just random everywhere, it would make minecraft look much more beautiful.

This would be amazing, especially if more life was added to these "sub-biomes". They could spawn in Plains and Forests, usually connected to a river, and about the same depth as the shallow part of the ocean (think coral reef depth). Algae and lily pads could spawn in these, alongside a new moss (similar to what is planned for the lush caves in 1.17). Honestly, lakes would make a great addition to 1.17, as many of the Lush Cave features could be easily integrated into them. A new type of fish like Bass or Perch could also be amazing, and would spawn alongside Salmon in freshwater lakes.

I support this. The lakes we now have make the world look like Swiss cheese. Filled with ugly craters. Hopefully they make the lakes larger and the puddles rarer.

I think this is a great idea. I think there should be a “Lake Biome” similar to rivers and oceans, lakes could be about as deep as the deepest parts of rivers. There could also be a frozen variant “Frozen Lake Biome” that spawns in snowy biomes, similar to frozen rivers and oceans. Lakes that spawn in biomes with higher elevation could be higher than normal sea level. Fish and other mobs could spawn in lakes, I think it would be cool if the glow squid spawned in the Frozen Variant.

Different variations of the Lake Biomes could appear depending on the main biome. E.g:

    - Taiga Lakes
    - Giant Tree Taiga Lakes
    - Jungle Lakes (Tropical Fish spawn here)
    - Forest Lakes

I love this idea, ducks, geese, swans, dragonflies and a new tree could also go out in this lake: weeping willow, its wood would be cactus green

Something simple but great, I love this idea. Other than make that puddle deeper, is to add more vegetation, like bushes, moss, lily pads, etc. Also add lily flowers there, pink and white lilies. Add lake ambience as well, like sound of frogs, or crickets at night. Then occasional dragonfly particles on lake sides, makes it perfect

I think good can be a Lush Valley in Desert or Messa. The Lush valley is good place to spawn Axolotles, and other cool mobs. In the valley, there are lakes, lakes as in Lush Caves, moss blocks, azaleas...
Paradise on Earth, in the inhospitable Desert or Messa

I cordially disagree with you, because I don't see the point of lakes at all. There are already so many water sources in Minecraft, so what you are proposing isn't anything special in my opinion. I suppose if ducks/swans were going to be added to the game, they could make these lakes more interesting by swimming on the surfaces and occasionally dipping in their heads the way real ducks do, but otherwise I just don't see why you would want this. It's not too hard to make your own lake without them being a natural occurrence in the game.

Not only deeper but also wider and bigger so it feels like a proper lake.
