In short, if villagers can open doors, their hostile counterparts should be able to break them down if pursuing a player or villager. This could be some way to make them more of an "NPC" mob, as villagers already have the intelligence to interact with doors, farm crops, and trade. All the illagers do is attack the player with their axes or magic spells; they currently don't do any high-level behaviors like the villagers.

But there are no doors in their woodland mansion environment. So the only way you would be able to see this behavior is if you take the time to transport them elsewhere or place doors yourself while you are in the woodland mansion.
@ClayGoddessSari even if mansions don't have doors, that doesn't mean they can't have the behavior can't it? They are still aggressive to the player and villagers, and are humanoid, like zombies. It would be a nice little touch for mapmaking or, as you said, transport on survival or summoning in creative mode.
Horrible idea. Zombies are already too much of a problem breaking into my builds. Especially with the new Turtle Eggs. The last thing I want is to have to waist my time crafting pointless decorative doors. And I don't plan on being forced to change them to the holy iron doors any time soon.
I hope you find this comment useful.
@FireDrakeRider Illagers don't spawn anywhere at night at all like other hostiles; only in mansions. So unless you spawned in a roofed forest biome and near a rare mansion in survival mode, this would absolutely not be a problem for you. If you did spawn in a roofed forest biome, you would most likely have to move out to build your first house outside the forest ASAP, since it's clustered and dark enough for zombies to spawn there in broad daylight.
And if you don't like either zombies or another mob like illagers to break down doors, there's always the "mobGriefing" gamemode that can be set to false if you are concerned about creative mode builds.
Yeah, they do have an iron axe...
This change does make sense, even if it's pretty insignificant. I think it should be added.
It would be a secret feature that when a vindicator is named "Johnny" it could break down doors, much like that guy from The Shining it would be an addition to the secret.
Maybe if he’s named Johnny he will say, “Heeeeeres Johnny!” when he’s breaking down a door.
Before the "better together" update, zombies used to pound on your doors. In Survival Hard, they could break down doors not made of iron. And zombies on fire could set you on fire. So much that made combat more difficult and more enjoyable has been dumbed-down in the Bedrock version for the kids, to the extent that Survival Hard is nothing of the sort anymore. The only thing I'm in danger of dying from is boredom.
@iceman42dave 👍
Yep. I remember the days when survival was actually about surviving, not butchering zombies.
maybe rather than destroying the doors the could "kick" them open?
What i mean is that whenever they're pursuing a villager or the player and they run into a door, a loud wooden sound, like when zombies smash doors, would play, and the door would get opened.
I think this feature would be a great addition to minecraft.
Especially during the new Illager-Patrols added in 1.14, having the illagers being able to break doors would make it much more realistic.
Actually, they already do something when they're named Johnny. Just go into creative mode and try it to see what happens!
With the new Illage and Pillage update it feels like this is a behavior that should be limited to hard mode. Illagers will be able to patrol and this won't be good for players who want to feel safe in their homes to have Illagers just open the door and walk right in. Personally, I feel this should be limited to Hard mode (where zombies can already break down doors) and/or doors should be able to be locked. Giving Illagers the same power to open a door is great, but I feel like Villagers, with their new skills and abilities, would try to "lock" a door against Illagers.
This will also ostracize new players to the game in survival mode because they will have a harder time making safe places to reside within the game.I completely agree
They already do, in raids they have that AI, but only with raid AI, also if I'm in creative, build something, and place a vindicator inside, he'll get out and it would be annoying.
Beautiful idea
Let's just give Vindicators the ability since they have axes
Perhaps we should Al's give vindicators the ability to break gates
