Given that the Nether is already quick travel for the overworld, I think you're going to have to give more reason for this "space dimension" to exist.

Maybe make it so it has a minimum size of 2 by 2 and could be expanded like nether portals?

My take on a teleportation portal is a nether portal but two portals connect when they have the same name.

I like idea of a teleport portal. Rather than going to the nether you set up both ends of the teleportation loop. Of course this should be a difficult process requiring rare items. Something difficult to achieve

Quartz might be a little cheap for such an item; maybe a new block that requires diamonds/netherite to create called ancient tech (like the ancient debris)?

I propose it be made similar to the fallen portals:

    gold          obsidian ... obsidian         gold
    obsidian                                      obsidian
    ...                                                          ...
    obsidian                                      obsidian
    gold          obsidian ... obsidian         gold

And the way you link between portals is you place a sign on the side of the portal. When you go into the portal, the game reads the text on the sign and uses that text in a HashMap or whatnot to find the other portal and then send you into it. This would be extremely efficient and people could make private portals by generating them with long strings of random text. If people didn't place a sign it should generate a random matching portal 20000 blocks from the player in any dimension. That way it adds to the lore of the game with the fallen portals. :D

I had the exact same idea with a different exceution!

There could be a telportation device. You can travel around the world and place one so you can come back to the spot. To not make this overpowered it could be either extremely difficult to find or would be really expensive (maybe using a new ore) and would have to be a late game item. The catch is that you have to have been there and place it. To travel you need at least two, one anchor and multiple others in places to travel to. These cannot be moved.

I would also like portals that connect two places in the same dimension. It would definately have an impact on how some servers operate, that's for sure. Nether railways would be a thing of the past though as there really wouldn't be a reason to take on that risk or expend those resources.

As such, maybe the portals should require materials that are far more difficult to find? For example, Diamond Blocks? It takes 9 diamonds to make one diamond block and if it followed the same rules in nether portal generation you would need a minimum of 10 diamond blocks - or 90 diamonds - to make a single teleporter. That level of expense would mean that people would still use rails for shorter range transportation and would save the diamonds for the long range transport.

Additionally, wouldn't this need some way of telling the portal which it's other half is? Unlike interdimensional portals, which generate on the other side, you'd need to tell it where it's other half is. So, maybe a craftable tool made from redstone that lets to "attune" two portals together? You use it on the first poral after it is built and activate it. It won't take you anywhere, but the portal will be lit. Then you go to the second portal, use it again, and it activates. The second portal would basically have been told the coordinates of the first portal by the device and, upon seeing a valid portal present, it makes the connection allowing you to travel between them.

Love it! I am not the kind of player who likes ridiculously long and dangerous routes.

I’m sorry to say, but portal gun is better way of teleporting. If you could walk ‘through’ and it looks like a doorway would be much better. :)

Malísima idea, el chiste de minecraft es que vos tengas que ir a pie para explorar el mundo, y no andar siempre teletranportandose.
