    I can see how this could be useful, but it also seems overly complicated.  Especially since it's mostly useful for the person who is taking the damage, and they're the one who can see it least well.

    I would agree with ClayGoddessSari that this is a little complicated, but I still love the original idea.

    I would love to see this in game if it was cut down to changing the color flash based on whether it was typical physical damage, or magic-related damage (red for falling, arrows, & hits, & some fancier color for ender pearl teleportation, enchanted attacks, evoker fangs, etc.)

    The potion effect particles kind of cover some of the other damages taken.
