Temperature should be added to the game with a temperature indicator in the HUD that has an option to be hidden from the HUD. When the player is exposed to being too hot for a certain amount of time, it will get the hyperthermia status effect, which causes it to take damage like starvation, and nausea. When the player is exposed to being too cold for a certain amount of time, it will get the hypothermia status effect, which causes it to take damage just like starvation, slowness and mining fatigue. Warming objects include torches, fire, lamps, lava, the sun, beaches, low elevation, glowstone and other things you think are hot. Cooling objects include ice, snow, rain, cold biomes and other things you think are cold. Some objects can be colder than others. The closer a player is to an object the greater the rate of temperature increase/decrease overtime. Leather clothing will give the player a certain amount of protection from the cold. Polar bear armor will give the player full protection from the cold. Aluminum armor or diamond armor will be needed to protect the player from the heat emited by lava. Lava if close enough, and not wearing aluminum or diamond armor, will cause the player to instantly get hyperthermia. Crops will grow faster in hot, but not too hot temperatures, and will grow slower in cold temperatures. There will be an air conditioner/heater block that will regulate temperatures in an inclosed space. Their will be a temperature resisting potion that will keep the player at room temperature, and get rid of hypothermia and hyperthermia imediately. Temperature emitted by the sun will change randomly on an in-game day to day basis. The nether will be much hotter than the overworld. The end dimention, and the thermodynamic properties of water are up to mojang.
Because adding temperature to the game is a lot, and is complex, I would suggest it to be added in as a 1.1X snapshot like the combat update. If you have any questions, I will answer them in the comment section. If you have any suggestions, put them in the comments section. Thank you for reading.
