How about if you successfully block an arrow, there might be a enchantment that sends it back to where-ence it came

The idea of adding enchantments to shield is really great, but I'll go with less strong ones. For example, thorns would be really appropriate.

And maybe the ability to ricochet arrows should be an Enchantment instead of a default ability. Or perhaps there could be an enchantment that just increases the ricocheting power.

i have some ideas too: economy/saving:a legendary and rare enchantment like mending. when applied it give you a chance of 50% to receive arrows when an arrow hits your shield(ive got this idea from assassins creed!)

ramming: like saving is rare. when you are blocking with shield and double taping w (forward), it allows you to dash forward and ram enemies! notes: 1.it makes you hunger 1.5 point 2.you will lose your control (like ) and keep going for 15 meters(15blocks). 3.this enchant mutually exclusive with saving. 4.you will automatically jump if you reach a block, or fall and still keep going if you reach a hole.

    Shield needs a nerf first

Maybe it could be seperated into different shields like Projectile Shield, Melee Shield and Magic/Potion shield

    I like the idea of the enchantments, but I think that it would be cool if you could also craft some effects into/onto a shield;

    - add gold/iron/diamond to a shield to give it more durability and protection (and a different look)

    - craft a banner onto a shield to decorate it

    - craft some swords onto the shield to add some visible spikes (and the thorns enchantment)

Perhaps also add a "disguise" enchantment that (when you crouched with the shield) copied the block you were standing on as an illusion over the two blocks you occupy; this would also make you invisible to any hostile mobs.

You should make an enchantment that expands protection around a block area. So say that one player has a shield(that's enchanted with this enchantment that I'm suggesting) and another player has nothing. The player that has the shield blocks the attack with the other player right next to them, the attack is blocked and the two players are safe. It's expanding the protection to the nearby player that's next to the shield. I feel like that would be cool. Plz add that in my friend.

I would be fine if they just let us put unbreaking, thorns, mending and curses on shields, since that's the only (currently implemented) enchantment that would make sense to put on it. Special enchantments specifically for shields would be cool too, though I'm not sure how I feel about the ones suggested.

I've thought about shield enchantments for awhile, too! Here are some ideas:

    • Roots: Nullifies knockback you take when the shield is in use.
    • ReinforcedMakes the shield less likely to be knocked out by axes, pierced by crossbows or lasers, and has a chance to repel effects from splash potions and lingering potion zones. Could be very helpful against pillager raids, guardians, and the Ender Dragon.
    • Bash: Knocks back any entity that hits the shield. Enables larger arrow bounces, and knocking enemies off cliffs.
    • Thorns: Whenever your shield is up, there is a small chance that a melee enemy will be damaged slightly.
    • Quick Charge: Deploys your shield faster. Imagine being able to snap up your shield immediately when you hear a creeper hiss or a bow being fired, and actually block the damage. That is, after all, the reason you have a shield, so why not add a way of rewarding players for good reflexes?
    • Fire Aspect: Take the existing enchantment for igniting a foe in melee combat, and put it on a shield.
    • Juggernaut: Move at walking speed and enable swimming with your shield up. I imagine this could be very helpful fighting guardians and elder guardians.
    • Blast Protection: Prot, Fire Prot, and Proj Prot are out. However, Blast Protection could make some sense on a shield. Ordinarily, a shield doesn't prevent all damage or knockback from an explosion... but what if it did?

    Thank you for your consideration!

Fortress is exactly the same as unbreaking and the shield already knocks back mob upon blocking.

I hope your idea gets accepted in game because the Shield is one of my fav. weapons. Also, more combat possibilities.

    Enchantments for the shield:

Flare: Gives your shield a flame enchanted look. Sends arrows/projectiles that struck the shield to set on fire and reflect off back towards the enemy who shot the shield.

Thorns: Gives the shield a badass spikey look and damages melee attackers or enemies who get too close.

Blinding1,2,3: Gives your shield a shiny/glossy enchantment look. Blinds enemies with bright light(s) emitting from the shield somewhat blinding enemies and making it more difficult to attack you, slightly slows/confuses enemy mobs, depending on the mob.

Absorber: Requires special item attached to shield before enchanting. Gives a dark firey enchantment look but gets brighter the more projectiles it absorbs. Very rare enchantment that eats projectiles that hit the shield feeding a certain rare special item is attached to the shield. Absorbs arrows, potions, fire charges, wither attacks and other projectiles. Does not eat tridents.

Frost Blocker: Gives your shield an ice/frozen enchantment look. Shortly slows down melee attacking enemies and depending on the attack of the hostile mob it will freeze them for a certain duration. The weaker the attack the longer the freezing effect.

    1. Shields need Unbreaking lll and what would go with that nicely would be... No2

    2. I Like Wonkywillows comment:

Successfully Parry an arrow/projectile that sends it back to where-ence it came, like sending a ghast explosive back to the ghast. It could be called: Reflect l 30% chance, Reflect ll 60% chance, Reflect lll 90% chance...

You actually kind of need this for the upcoming nether 1.16 update because the soul soil parts are infested with ghasts and skeletons.

Or make a Mob/Mini boss/Boss that drops an Enchanted shield with Unbreaking lll and Reflect (l) lll

I think in the moment shields are way too overpowered to get enchantments! First they need to get nerfed

It should also have a stunning one for when you perfectly parry an attack and it causes them to become stunned

    YES!!

Growth: The Shield itself expands to block you and another player or two

Boomerang Shield: When you can throw your shield at a mob and it comes right back

Could Firebrand also make it to where if you are attacked by somebody with Fire Aspect on their sword or Flame on their bow you will not be set on fire

There could also be parry, which sends projectiles back a certain distance depending on the level of the enchantment, and maybe one that could prevent you from being burned, allowing you to block blaze fireballs. This could be tied in with parry to allow you to send fireballs back at blazes(probably only for knockback, as they’re made of fire)

You could do an enchantment where hitting the shield does extra damage to the weapon

I would like to contribute more enchantments.

Adept- Increases move speed while shielding, Maximum speed be 25% more than the walking speed.

Charge- Attempting to run while shielding allows you to run to the direction you are facing. You cannot turn. Enemies hit will be knocked back and damaged. The levels of this enchantment will increase the knock back, damage, and distance traveled.

Bash- Exiting the shield while there are nearby mobs will knock them back, deal damage, and apply a short slow. Mutually exclusive to the Charge enchantment.

Reflect- Adds a chance to bounce back projectiles to the direction it came from.

Despite I do not like some of these enchantments I upvoted this because hopefully Mojang will take a more scientific approach to this as well as add more consistency with this.

    That being said:

    - Thorns should be an enchantment that works on Shields
    - Unbreakable should also be allowed to be on shields

Some of the enchantments you said are good but the names are lackluster or bad naming.
    Good post either way.

A mirror enchantment could be really useful too. It would have a chance of reflecting projectiles (Arrows, fire balls, even snowballs). It should be rare and have 3 or 4 levels, changing the probability of reflecting a projectile.

There should also be different tiers to shields, because they need to be nerfed.

Stone ~ Decreases maylay damage, but does not block it. Player cannot move at all when blocking.

Iron ~ Blocks maylay damage, but not ranged or blasts.

Gold ~ Blocks ranged and maylay, but not explosions. Has fast recovery speed, but lower durability

Diamond ~ Blocks all damage, and has a slightly slower recovery than gold.

    Other enchantments can be:

-Magic block: will block witch potions, evoker magic, etcetera.

-Duplication: you will be able to acquire one of your opponent's attacks every time the shield's block is successful, and it can also block any kind of attack from any mob or player, for example: if you're fighting the Wither with this shield, if you successfully block a Wither skull attack with your shield, you will be able to shoot a Wither skull yourself, and it does the same amount of damage, it could be an item in your inventory that looks like an enchanted wither skeleton skull for instance, and the same will work for any attack.

I like the shockwave and barrage. I think Shockwave could inflict a one block knockback for each level, culminating in Shockwave III, because it shouldn't replace the KNockback enchantment. This would also add an advantage for skilled players: if they can hit the player with a Knockback II sword after the Shockwave, they can achieve a total of 11 block knockback.

Barrage could deal 1 health point for 50% of hits. Barrage II would also deal 1 health point but for 90% of hits.

I dont agree with Firebrand, because it negates the need for Fire Aspect, and Fortress makes aiming less important, and therefore skill less of a factor.
