    And the creation of temporary portals that can bring mobs from other dimensions

    and make it so the shulker can hit you through these portals for the giggles

    It makes tons of senses too, a new moon is a black moon which means it should be darker, which of course means more mobs.

    I like the idea of the phantom attacking at any cost in a full moon. It adds more of a challenge.

    A lot of people don't know this, but during a full moon mobs spawn in greater numbers, and better equipped.

    I like this idea, it sounds great on paper, but it needs more depth. Every new moon sounds like a bit much, every one in eight days would get annoying. Maybe it could happen for a blood moon, eclipse, or something else could trigger this, maybe every thirty-second day. Second, wouldn't you just be able to sleep through this? It could be easily skipped just by sleeping, but maybe it would be a loss to do so, or you just can't because, 'you're more prone to getting a nightmare' and can't sleep. Maybe mobs could drop better or more loot, like zombies having a 10% chance of dropping gold. Or villagers could have special trades during that event, and maybe if it were an eclipse, the villagers would have some cool shades.

    The mob spawn rate was cool but phantoms are strong, I dont want this affecting peoples enjoyment of the game and their time being spent...

    I have to agree with another user from above. This is nice on paper, but lets think of what would actually happen. 

    Mobs spawning at an increased rate and in larger groups is, to my knowledge a thing already depending on the moon cycle. Just not a major difference. Anyway, I see this more being an issue in Multiplayer than I do Singleplayer. Like another user said, with the night being so dangerous and without insensitive to fight the mobs, this would become an annoyance to builders or adventurers who are otherwise now forced to stay inside if they can't handle the mess. 

    If this is added, I would make it either a unique approach to Hardcore mode and cut it there. Just because of how difficult this is to avoid in Multiplayer. UNLESS, there is a command to disable the event that only Server Admins can use. Then it can go right into the main game. 

    I digress.

    So how about an endgame event: "The Blood Moon". After you defeat the ender dragon you collect the egg and build a blood moon summoning structure. The blood moon could then be triggered every 27 to 30 days or immediately if you give it an item.

    It could be completely optional, turned off at any time, and could be completely disabled on servers.

    You would be blocked from sleeping, a message will appear saying: "You cannot sleep until the blood moon is over.". Exclusive hostile mobs and buffed enemies will spawn in waves like in raids. Untamed mobs ( that would exclude any breed or fed farm animals, as well as pets ) will become hostile to you and any villagers until the end of the event.

    And yes, I do know other people were suggesting this, just thought I'd add some detail.

    I really like this idea! What if you also can't sleep during a full moon? Also there should be also be more rewards for it as well...like increased loot drops or items that you can only get during a new moon.

    I like where you're going with this idea. I absolutely love events in any game I play. Events shake things up and break up the monotony of the game. They are also really fun. A reoccurring event could also be a good opportunity to get good items or something rare, and maybe even fight something rare (or just a cool variant of the current mobs). Maybe even a wave system, similar to the raid system. I feel that once I get good armor and weapons the combat becomes trivial and stale, even.

    However, I do agree with the others who are suggesting a random event instead of an event every single new moon. Also, I think one of 2 things should happen when you try to sleep: You either get a message saying you can't sleep now or you get a warning message informing you that, if you go to sleep, you will be skipping the event. They could also make it to where if you sleep and skip the event, it happens again the next night and so on.

    Here's my idea that expands on this a little bit:
    Mob Sieges would happen during both the New Moon and the Full Moon. These mob sieges would be limited to Hard difficulty, including Hardcore Mode.
    Like you said, the mobs would spawn more frequently and maybe they could even be drawn to artificial light. No, Creepers wouldn't blow up your house while you're inside it, but they would be on your land.
    Having Mob Sieges occur on the Full Moon would make the first night much, much scarier, just like how it was when we first started playing the game.

    The phase of the moon has two subtle effects on mob spawning:

    • The number of slimes that spawn in swamps is proportional to the moon's fullness: They are most numerous during the full moon, and none spawn during the new moon. (The moon's phase does not influence the normal spawning of slimes in designated chunks at altitudes below y=40.)
    • The fuller the moon, the higher the chance skeletons and zombies have the ability to pick up items and spawn with weapons and armor. Furthermore, there is a higher chance for their equipment to be enchanted, and if it is, the enchantment levels are higher. A fuller moon also gives spiders a greater chance to spawn with random beneficial status effects, including invisibility. All of these effects combine with the world's difficulty; with higher difficulty levels increasing the chance of mob buffs.

    Taken from the wiki. They already implemented this, I can't imagine they'll take it farther

    I'd love to see some sort of wave system implemented into these nights as well in certain difficulties of the game. Perhaps getting a special reward at the end of it all? 

    Maybe it could only happen after you've defeated one of the current bosses in Minecraft. Either way, I like the idea.

    Okay but I feel that if you make it the New moon specifically then it would just get annoying.

    How about a special Eclipse event that could just rarely happen after a certain number of days?
