This actually sounds like a really cool idea! Even better... an ARMOURED version that would be used in the horse armour slot like combining horse armour and an Elytra?

I made a similar suggestion, however, for mine, you could go up to a max of Y=100 by pressing the jump button. and to obtain it you fed the horse elytra and feathers and could breed them with horses to get more pegasi.

Yeah, you should be able to Combine two Elytas and a Horsearmor for the Pegasuselytra

Give a Horse the ability to equip an elytra like you equip a saddle. The horse gains the ability to fly, it becomes a pegasus. To differ from usual elytra use, you do not need rockets to propel you forward. The horse flies using its own stamina. The already used jumpbar (when you prepare to jump with a horse, it loads a bar to control your jump) can be used as a stamina bar. The horse would be able to hover without losing stamina. Flight with a horse would be easier to control and smoother over all, you are able to hover in places, it uses stamina instead of rockets. Flight with a personal equipped elytra would be faster, you are able to carry a lot of rockets with you, thus being able to travel farther, without resting. Using a horse for small to medium flight distances, within or inbetween bases, and using normal elytra for far away destinations. Both ways of flying would be unique and have its own advantages. Furthermore horses would gain a late game relevance, which they are lacking atm.

Great idea, as horses are currently useless after you get Elytra, which is really unfortunate. Both should have a use...

    Advantages of Pegasus over Elytra:

    • Pegasus should be able to hover (bobbing up/down with wing flaps to make aiming a bow very difficult so it's not OP).
    • Pegasus should have additional storage for a speed/jump penalty (maybe donkey gets double chest storage w/ no penalty). This extra space will be needed as more items are added to the game, making Ender/Shulker storage insufficient.
    • Can easily transition to riding on land, which is very fast and requires no extra fuel (perhaps normal flight for a horse should require additional food). (Ideally Frost-Walker boots would also allow travel across water for added versatility.)

    Advantages of Elytra over Pegasus:

    • Faster.
    • Tighter/faster turning.
    • No mounting/dismounting.

The one other thing that may be needed for making this a viable transportation option is the ability to store the animal (or other animals) in a kind of ~Poke-ball. Otherwise, you'll inevitably get the hassle of having to go back to retrieve the Pegasus, which will dis-incentivize use. (Maybe Eye-of-Ender surrounded by eggs in a crafting table, throw at animal to capture, durability = health, throw again to deploy; I think there are mods like this...)
