Correct me if I'm wrong here, but the people who own these OG accounts and usernames have paid for them, correct? In that case, there's no justification for taking those accounts or usernames away from them, even if they have been inactive. "I want a cool username" does not mean you get to take other people's stuff.

    No support from me, sorry.

Absolutely not. People sometimes take long breaks. For all we know they could be in a coma.

No, because what if these people come back to minecraft just to have the name that they paid for gone?

But they paid for the username and it makes no sense for Mojang to just take it away. They own the account, so they can technically do whatever they want with it.

May I recommend something else, but still similar?
Instead of deleting them, they should just be locked and can be unlocked when the owner of the account wants to play again.
And instead of only locking OG accounts, any inactive account (4 years+) should be locked.

Disagree. Yes, many people with OG accounts are inactive, but that doesn't matter. As people have said, it's their account and they can do whatever they want with it. I guarantee that Mojang will not release these accounts for the public. Firstly, the amount of backlash they'd get from the community would be horrific. It's basically taking away someone's personal property just to make a few others happy. Doesn't seem right to me.

Secondly, this won't benefit anyone. If OG accounts were released, within milliseconds they'd be requested and purchased on chearful.ninja. After they've been sniped, then what? Only a few people will be satisfied, and the majority of people get nothing. Not to mention the severe selling and re-selling of the accounts that would happen.

Even though OP posted this 2 years ago, others have posted more recently so want to add my 2 cents. First, people purchased Minecraft, not a Mojang account/username. The game and their data would still be accessible so they’d only be losing their username and skin. A person’s account who has been disabled due to inactivity should be sent warnings via email and if no action is taken, sent instructions on how to register a new name or could be directed on how to so if they ever attempt to retrieve their password or username when it fails. Many many services do this, even XBox Live does. While I don’t care about OG names, it’s frustrating that even my preferred obscure username wasn’t available when I have it on tons of services that are even more mainstream than Minecraft. As long as it’s implemented right, I think it’s a must.

Honestly, this would be very unfair for the owners of those names. How would you feel if you lost your OG name simply because you went inactive for a while? This would be nothing like the name change day event in 2015. In this case, you would be taking away the names from people who paid for the game and somewhat “earned” them, either by being around in the early days or by simply getting them in that special day almost 6 years ago, while they could.

There is absolutely no reason for Mojang to recycle usernames now and the reason all these good names became available in 2015 was because of the removal of the feature that allowed you to claim a name without paying for an account, which led to many OG names reserved in around 2010 to become available. Besides, if Mojang were to free up all these names it would be chaotic. People who learned from history are going to do anything it takes to get them and many would attempt to make money out of selling the accounts they snipe the names on...

These names are desirable because they are very simple and rare to see on servers, which implies they were claimed a long time ago. They wouldn’t be so special if they were to be recycled every time their owner goes inactive. You need to accept that you can’t have anything you want. The days of the Minecraft OG names are over. You may be jealous of these people, but that isn’t going to change anything. Just deal with it!

P.S. The names Langlan, Vehix and RandomCakes are neither OG nor semi-OG.

should not be a thing simple as that here are some reasons

    1. none of you wil get a "OG" name because i know that some people are just gonna have 1000 bots trying to get as many as possible to sell for money

    2. first come first serve they where first and you where not "unless they paid alot of money for them"

    3. its a name in a block game its not like its anything important like your real name so you should be able to live with it having a number or two at the end

and if its bothering you that much buy one when its on the market

your suggestion literally makes no sense at all

just because you want a name, it doesn't mean you can get it from the inactive players. People just move on. They might die, they might get married or even get into business.

Everybody has a memory here. When they come play the game again, they'll see their nickname revoked just because some selfish people like you wanted their name just to flex on people.

they paid for the game, they got their nickname when they paid for it. Their being inactive isn't your business.

    end of discussion

Rather than sweating so hard on nicknames, try enjoying the game itself.

CarolineCat19. No, just no. These people have bought minecraft and chose their name and it would be randomly retaken by a other person, that isn't fair. And if og names would be released they will be taken by chearfulls hundreds of alts and then be sold for hundrends of cash and none of you guys will get a name only if you have loads of cash but it seems you guys dont even want to spend a peny for a og name, so good luck getting a og name and what would u feel like if you had a og name but u just play a other game for a few years or u grow up and then see that your og name is renamed and all ur memories are broken because mojang just randomly gave your name that you had all those wonderfull memories with to a rich 9 year old that is toxic and loves pvp. Is it just me that doesn't want that?

    What? No!

People payed for the game. It doesn't matter if they leave, they got the username themselves. If a billionaire buys a two mansions, and only lives in one, people aren't going to tell them to give it away because they aren't using it.

You all are a bunch of selfish idiots if you believe that you deserve their account. I'm reading the replies and people are going "I would love to have this OG username", but so would tons of other people! It's up to the owner of the account whether they are going to sell it or keep it, but according to Mojang's rules, you can't sell accounts. Mojang tries to stop people from selling their accounts.

You aren't going to get that username. Stop thinking about just yourself.

I'm totally agreed with you. I've been struggling to find an OG name for my account, because onviously, the more OG your name is, the more competent people consider you.

Because I couldn't find any good IGNs, I decided to just come up with something myself, and it was the name Vehix. I do get called out for my name being semi og but then again we still want better names. Unfortunately, nowadays, people who have OG names are those who used to play the game but then quit...

I really hope that Minecraft could look back at this and do something about it.

Hello owner of multiple high tier OG account names here, I see this is still a topic of debate but what I don't get is what makes people think they are entitled to having the names? Should have bought Minecraft in the early days and got the name. Another thing just because an account doesn't change their skin, use namemc, or logs onto Hypixel doesn't make the account inactive? It's not something that can be proved they could be playing single player for all we know.

While I will never publicly condone the buying/selling/trading accounts sense it's a breach of TOS it's no secret that these accounts have value. So not only are you petitioning to take away something that was bought for retail price but something that can easily hold a value of 1K in real US currency. I saw someone mention name snipers and I'll add this no public sniper is fast enough to beat private ones meaning all the released names would end up on the market anyways so people won't be getting them without paying the shady sellers on the coms. Doing so is against TOS and can result in your account being locked. In the end all you did is line the pockets of the black market.

From experience I find a lot of people gravitate to the "OG names" because they want attention and the only reason the names grant attention is because they are rare. Take away that rarity and many would lose the reason they want them in the first place.

Whoa whoa whoa, because you can't find an available OG name doesn't mean that Mojang will rename or even delete OG accounts, you can easily buy them if they come-up for sale so everyone is happy.

My account, RandomCakes is OG and I've had it for basically since Minecraft came out and I've paid for it and played on it almost every day. If Minecraft did do what you want them to do, then if you took the OG name you would have an OG name so since your name is OG according to you then your account would have to be renamed. Have a good day.

I disagree with the way you decide which accounts are deleted/renamed. I do think that accounts that HAVEN'T EVEN MIGRATED TO MOJANG should be renamed or something ONCE the Microsoft migration happens because they are so old, and it sucks that dusty old unmigrated accounts are still hogging usernames after 2 freaking account migrations. and yes i want a specific username an unmigrated person has-

I'm not someone who wants a totally OG username but it would be nice to be able to take away the numbers from my username "RainingTNT123". The person who has the numberless version of my name has been inactive for over four years according to minecraft-statistic.net. People who haven't been active for that long should get a message or something that would warn them that their name would be usable for anyone if they aren't active or if they press a button that says they don't want their name to go public. I just think usernames would have a better use to people who are actually play rather then people who haven't played in four years.

People paid for a Minecraft account not the name. If they haven’t been active, people who are active in everyday deserve an og name way more :)

    Hello,

I agree with this article and I believe OG name should come available again. I don't thing the account should be deleted as the owner paid for that. I believe that an account that it is inactive for a long time it should change to an other username so the OG name can get available again.

I do not agree, imagine being an og player and then taking a break from the game for a little while. When they come back they find their account is deleted and they can't play unless they create a new account and lose everything including money.

    Bro, you are so cringe
You want an account that first of all, You don't deserve, and also, Name Snipers will get the name before you even have a chance to type it in, Go cry about the fact that you don't own any good accounts.

I think it should be as simple as this: If you are inactive for a year or 2, you lose name privileges.

Even though this post might be rather old however, I think the solution to this entire thing is simple. There's no need to go and have mojang delete the account (As people said they paid for it, It's theirs.) And I do agree that some name limitations can be frustrating for some people (I recently managed to get my user changed to Beelzeboul after seeing it available). The solution to this is quite the simple one; Mojang can add a feature onto minecraft.net itself which lets you search up someone and see an email (rather the one they would put in themselves or the one they registered minecraft in [Not gonna go on this because it's another thing to talk on]) and you as an individual can go and try to email them. If they answer you, And they're willing to sell /give /switch their name so you have it then there you go! And if they don't want to then they don't, Their choice in the end of the day and even if they denied your request you still got an answer in the end and wasn't left out in the dust.

p.s - Some minecraft name lookups already have a similar feature to this one. Difference being, That having minecraft do an official way would probably be more secure and people would be more aware of it. (Also, Sorry for the long message. Thanks for reading :D )

people have commented that people paid for those names? but no they paid for the account and if they havent been active for a long long time then its fair to give their name away as others also have the desire to have those names. its like hogging a name
