Allow Chest and Hopper Minecarts to Ride Boats.

announced

A simple way to add storage to boats using existing mechanics. This would be useful for transporting items across the ocean.

Try this concept out with this command

/summon minecraft:boat ~ ~ ~ {Type:"oak",Passengers:[{id:"minecraft:chest_minecart"}]}

    I've thought of this too - it would make for a really nice fishing trip vibe that isn't currently possible. However, wouldn't it be simpler just to add a Boat with Chest item the way we have a Minecart with Chest? It'd be crafted with Boat + Chest and it would essentially be a boat with a chest stuck in it that can be interacted with. Either way, voted

    I agree that a boat with chest item would be cool.  Especially since boats currently have two seating spaces, the chest could take the back one.  It would also be good protection against puffer fish deciding to get into your boat with you while you’re paddling around a tropical ocean and turning your boat into a poison death trap.  Maybe an added feature of a boat with chest is it cannot pick up ambient mobs?  So you don’t come back to you boat to find some random mob decided to get into it and thus you cannot.

    maybe even put a chest on the back of the boat, so that two players can sit in it. I think that would look quite nice

    I agree with you, and a simple way to attach boats would be handy for transporting over water. There also should be a way to attach mine carts as well.

    I agree with everyone else, just have a boat with chest; but I love the idea. Maybe the chest is equipped similar to a donkeys saddle bags instead, idk if that would be better or worse just an idea.

    Wait, why are do we need to put hoppers or minecarts in boat?. I understand the need to put chests in boats. Why do we need to put hoppers and minecarts in boats? Please someone explain why we need hoppers and minecarts in boats.

    I agree with adding the Boat with Chest item, similar to the Minecart with Chest.   If a boat can hold two items, then it should be able to hold a large chest.  Using a lead rope, the player could attach one boat with a double chest to the boat the player occupies.  This would allow moving larger quantities across oceans.

    Another use for attaching two boats is to place an animal in the second boat.  Currently there's no easy way to move a valuable horse across an ocean.

    scott63070, you can make a flying machine with honey blocks to move your horse across an ocean. Slime blocks for flying machine. Honey blocks x2 for Horse, surrounded by regular blocks with fences.. so there is actually a way to move horses across oceans, but I agree, easier would be a horse in a boat like a Ravager or a Cow..

    My idea is with the new variants of wood in the nether, the Crimson Wood variant of it (lava proof), could also be able to have a hopper/chest in it, though, to a cost of its speed. While the Warped Wood is very fast, but breaks upon accidentally hitting the surface, which costs you your life.

    Hey Nova, why in gods name is it only for chests only? It’s not hard to code the hopper being placeable in the boat. It better be added.

    Why don't you order a ship at once? This is totally unnecessary, but really, imagine if we could build boats in the game and make them float, just like the mods? Even if it is just changing the boat material or increasing the size a little.

    I believe a chest in the boat would be a great idea. I have a hard time figuring out how a hopper could work placed in a boat. Unless traveling in a shallow stream over another hopper or chest it drops what's stored inside? But I don't see the hopper being used much.

    It it would be cool if you could access the inventory of it by opening the menu by pressing “e” while in the boat as well.

    I though of auto miners, the machine flys along with tnt breaking block and water is left behind with hopper boats leaded to the machine to create a fully afk auto digger with collection system. I think this will be amazing and a fun challenge

    Instead of using commands lets say u r playing in survival mode & u want to go on an water expedition

    then we should be able to craft a boat with chest

    I think it makes more sense if the crate, etc. is added directly to the boat.

    Well, we already have Donkeys and Llamas, but chests would be cool too, and have more slots
