When you think of biomes, which biome seems the least full of life animal wise? Some may say Mesa, Desert, or Savannah, but I'm here to propose animals to a biome I feel needs it more. I'd like to talk about swamp animals.
- Alligators. Alligators are considered one of the most important species, and apex predator of their known environments. These olive-brown killers feed on gar, turtles, various mammals such as muskrat, birds, and other reptiles. Knowing this means that there can be multiple animals existing in the swamp, in a circle of life situation. On to the behavior, alligators are mostly solitude animals, meaning they will most likely hunt alone. They walk in two forms: The Sprawl, and The High Walk. The Sprawl is a forward movement with the belly to the ground, it is used to transition to The High Walk, or go into the water. The High Walk is a forward motion on all for limbs, with the belly up. It is mostly used for overland travel. Now to the death roll. An alligator could jump at it's food / the player, and chomp onto it. Then when in it's jaw, you or the food is spun wildly, the player taking massive hearts of damage, or the food being killed. Alligators can lay eggs on leaves or soil in the marsh, kind of like turtles in the recent update. (Edit: Alligators are 3 blocks long and 1 block high. They have an uncommon chance to drop scales for armor.)
- Frogs. Frogs are found in the swamp as well, and can be used as food by the alligators. That would be simple enough, but I would like to have more than just a meal for another animal. Frogs could usually look for food while clinging to vegetation, and hopping from lily pads. Frogs can have frogspawn buried in the soil, to prevent little kids from unknowingly breaking it. Once hatched the tadpoles can be actively swimming around in the swamp. Adult frogs have many ways of moving, like climbing, hopping, walking, or swimming! When killed, frogs can drop frog legs to be cooked. You could also catch a frog with a new item, a bug net. It would be simple to make, just string and sticks. While I am only talking about frogs found in swamps, a poison dart frog would be nice in the jungle! (Edit:1 block long, 1 block high.)
- Herons. Herons are long necked birds with harpoon like beaks. The are partially migratory, which I can't think of anything to do with that. Maybe you can though! The Herons are carnivorous, and mostly feed on aquatic prey like fish, reptiles, amphibians, crustaceans, and more! When hunting, the heron will stand in an upright position while still. When the prey gets close enough, the heron moves its head side to side, then spears its prey! Herons usually make nests close or above the water. They usually lay 3-7 eggs as well. The eggs are olive brown. Herons are also eaten by the alligator, but can eat fish, which would be a nice idle animation to watch it hunt. (Edit: 1 block long, 2-3 blocks high. Drops feathers?)
I thank you all for looking at what I would like to see in the swamp biome animal wise. If you have any other suggestions, feel free to share! :)
