Maybe the backpack could only be held in the inventory In the offhand making the offhand the trade off for the backpack?

@MindBlown101, if Mojang added backpacks they would have 5-9 spaces and go in the chest plate/offhand slot and NOT be upgradable. Many mods have a storage solution for how much they have. Minecraft needs an early-game storage solution, because we have added lots of early-game things.

I love the idea, limit the amount of storage, like has been suggested it adds 9 slots to your inventory, you wear them in your chest slot. so you can only wear one. they would be useless end game because you would trade up to shulker boxes and elytra on the chest slot. but for someone who is still collecting raw resources in the over world a few extra storage slots for cobble, coal, an extra pickaxe, the look out of the mineshaft they just cleared, or iron would be amazing!

    2 things

    1. I think a specific slot should be added to the inventory for a backpack, or you could equip it in place of a chestplate

    2. If you combined a shulker box and a backpack, it could increase the size of the backpack.

Maybe it adds a bit of inventory space

maybe like crazy craft where it just has like 6 -9 more hotbar slots except it's implemented with backpacks

(I'd like the first one better)

There should definitely be more than one tiers. 5 should be a safe number.

You should have a special spot in your inventory for backpacks so that they can go over top of armour. It would let you carry more without taking up inventory space

yes would like to see some kind of backpacks.

i dont want to have to always go to end world to get shulker boxes.

i like adventuring around the world.

finding mineshafts and jungles and ect.

going to end world isnt one of my main adjectives.

i like playing surival and building at same time. getting to shulker boxes takes away from

    adventure time.

I say this is a great idea but it probably just be like the shulker boxes put probably not able to place it could hv less room and easier crafting...

Shulker boxes are like backpacks but way harder to get so a backpack you can upgrade and get it bigger would be amazing

I think if we do end up getting backpacks we should be able to put them on our backs

Perhaps as a balance, Backpacks could have less inventory space than Shulker boxes, making Shulker Boxes more of an 'Upgrade' that you can only get after defeating the final boss. So maybe Backpacks could have similar space that llama chests have, and it also enables you to wear it.

I personally agree with the idea of backpacks. Being able to have more space during mining adventures. And being able to get them before going to the end. I do feel like being able to dye them as well would be a nice personal touch to them.

I love this idea, and make it so when you die, that you will keep the backpack that has all of your valuables that you don't wanna lose when you die.

The trade off more more storage could be no Chestplate or another debuff depending the amount of items

I think backpacks are a great idea because its more inventory space. Also, they could be made with leather/wool, etc, this means they would be easier to get than shulker boxes, so in that case I totally agree with adding backpacks.

Mid-term item, crafted with leather, moderately expands inventory, could also introduce a new armor slow that could also be used for Elytras and banners while keeping a chestplate

My thoughts are that they should be in the game, but have less inventory space than a shulker box so it doesn't replace it. entirely.

It’d be cool, but craft of this backpacks must be so hard (expensive)

A backpack should be added so when you inventory is full you can fill it up and put it on you chest plate spot

It could be have the same space than the barrels or maybe three spaces less. Cause i suppose that they don't put it because they think that the player have already a lot of space (which obviously is not true, but maybe they want to be a little realistic with this thing, i suppose).

Backpacks sound like a good way for early-game inventory expansion since shulker boxes are an end-game item. Of course, it must be balanced so it does not replace shulker boxes.
Backpacks (or satchels, pouches, block bags, etc.) should be a temporary solution for more space until the player can obtain shulker boxes.
It could work like CuteScroll45388 and SpecialisToL mentioned: it will expand the inventory by 9 slots and when unequipped items will go back into the inventory (or drop when inventory is full).
If the player’s body slot is used for the item, I think that would be a fine trade off between armor and inventory. If the inventory UI gets updated and adds extra equipment slots like in CuteScroll45388‘s picture, the new slot shouldn’t be exclusive for backpacks but be a slot for things like an Elytra OR a backpack. That way a player will decide whether they want to fly or have extra inventory space. The extra slot could also be used for future additions if necessary.
For crafting using a 3x3 grid, I thought that it would be a string on the top right and left corners, leather on the middle left, middle right, and bottom middle (a “v” shape), and a chest in the center. A possible addition to the crafting recipe is to add an iron bar or tripwire hook to the top middle to act as the “sealing” nature of the backpack and to add iron as a requirement of obtaining the item.
