I've been wanting this for so long. It'll make traveling players and trips much more convenient and worth the adventure even more.

I love the idea of backpacks, Especially while your mining and you can carry all those ores and cobblestone and what not, backpacks would be amazing to have!

I think there should be something better than them box that you will die for because you have bet the ended and then try to them boxs and kill them be killed so i think there should be backpacks

Ok. So here are my thoughts
1)shipper boxes a super late game and they don’t really help you if you just need that last little bit of iron.
2)I think backpacks would be great early game especially if you plan on traveling or going on large resource gathering sessions.
    3) the backpack would be great for aesthetic reasons
    4) the back pack shouldn’t be 2 over powered (maybe on add and extra row to your inventory space)
5)maybe add shulker boxes to upgrade the backpack and have separate tabs of inv space?

Yes add backpacks.  Shulker boxes still have to be placed, we want something you can equip over your armour to expand your inventory. Note add different levels of backpacks.

I’d say back packs because they would be easier to get and plus it’s hard to get a shulker box

Great idea! I've always wanted something like this in Minecraft BE.

@MacchuPicchu96 I agree, Shulker Boxes are very hard to get, though. I would like something easy to obtain/craft that you can dye (Oh I just remembered you can dye Shulker Boxes. XD).

Here's a potential idea to implement backpacks without making Shulker boxes useless.

1: Only have as as much space as a chest placed on a Donkey

2: You can't put backpacks inside backpacks

3: You can only store items in it if it's on your chest plate slot in your inventory. If you take it off, all the items fall out.

Personally i think the back pack is a great idea, it would be an early game way to extend your storage and could also could add some unique style to every player if you wear them, change the colors of your bags or maybe if they implemented different shaped bags with different storage levels based on the items used to craft the bag. These shouldn't allow bag inside bag interaction, nor should they reach the same power level as something such as the Shulker boxes but for those times where you have to travel a long ways away in the early/mid point of the game where you may not have access to Shulker boxes yet is where i believe backpacks would really shine.

Also a separate slot on your player for backpacks similar to the shield slot would be nice if they were implemented and were wearable so you could sport Elytra's with your bag.

yes would like to see some kind of backpacks.

i dont want to have to always go to end world to get shulker boxes.

i like adventuring around the world.

finding mineshafts and jungles and ect.

going to end world isnt one of my main adjectives.

i like playing surival and building at same time. getting to shulker boxes takes away from

    adventure time.

    Need more inventory space

What people do not seem to understand about backpacks vs. shulker boxes is that backpacks would function more as extra inventory space rather then needing to place down an inventory to access it. Shulker boxes are useful for bulk item transfer such as through sending them into item streams, hoppers, and dispensers/droppers.

Specifically with backpacks they might be a separate tab in your inventory like other mods do, similar to the creative mode inventory.

Shulker boxes are late game items, we need an early game inventory expansion

Although backpacks are an interesting idea, I feel like having more inventory space available before you even fight the Ender Dragon is a bit too powerful. Inventory space in Minecraft is precious and should be treated like it. Shulker boxes already give such IMMENSE power to the playing to be able to carry almost another full inventory space worth of items, and being able to do that in the beginning of the game is too overpowered.

8 leather and chest for 9 spaces. Place open and break with everything still inside. Dye with 16 colors of dye or use plain leather color

These are detaildetails if these get put in but i am on the fence about adding them in

Backpacks can add new inventory space as well as fashion and design for the player

In part of a greater fix of the game's progression, the backpack should add 9 slots of player inventory not previously included- maybe the players inventory is only initially the hotbar , and the inventory itself was made from 3 backpacks, for example.

    “But what about Shulker Boxes???”

    Why not both?

For balance, backpacks could be half the inventory space and have durability, still allowing for early game mining sessions. Durability might wear down based on total items stored over time, or something. Shulker boxes then are a full inventory and can be broken and keep their inventory, allowing them to be used in redstone systems, like on HermitCraft, and do not have any durability, making them better and more late game.

Leather doesn't make too much, so this might have a new use, and add an adventure element. I think it should have a relatively small inventory.

Well I think the backpack is a great idea!
First of all, we all know that shulker boxes work well. But because of their rarity (get to The End>kill the Ender dragon>use enderpearl on portal>navigate the outer islands without getting lost/find End city>kill shulkers>put two shulker shells above and below a center chest on the crafting table=shulker box), most players can’t actually make and use them UNTIL YOU BEAT THE GAME.
Second, a backpack could be made of more common materials like wool/leather and string, and could be worn in the chestplate slot. This way you could have more slots (maybe 6-12) at the cost of better defense/elytra (I don’t know if I spelled that right). Most players don’t even get elytra till late in their world, so this wouldn’t be too much of a problem.
Third, any items/blocks left in the backpack when it’s taken off will be dropped from the players inventory.
Also we don’t need to dye the backpacks.

An interesting way to implement this is having a trade-off with your chestplate/elytra. Better players that don’t need a chestplate will be rewarded with better inventory!

I say to keep bag packs balanced, it would take up the chest armor slot. Not as big as regular chest. Great early game made with leather, string, and maybe rabbit hide (give them some use)

As is, there is just too many blocks and tools in the game to reasonably manage your inventory in the early game. Sure we have Shulker Boxes, but those are a pretty late game item and are more for large scale projects and journeys than simple mining expeditions. All the different wood types and stone types and new stairs/slabs, some kind of upgrade to the Inventory system is long overdue. Some ideas I have:

Backpack, adds 18 spaces to the Inventory

Satchel, adds 9 spaces to the Inventory

Quiver, adds four slots that can only hold Arrows

Potion Belt, adds five slots that can only hold Potions

Tool belt, adds three slots to the Hotbar that can only hold Tools

Each of those items would be a one time permanent upgrade. Adding all of them may be a bit too OP, but one or two of them would help the current Inventory system a lot.

I think the inventory space of a player currently is far to large. Perhaps reducing the player inventory space, thereby making a backpack "more useful" but not making shulker boxes any less so.

I suggest adding a turtle backpack. It would be made of one lime shulker box and 8 pieces of turtle shell. The backpack would be worn in the armor slot (or back slot if they ever add it). After putting it on, a tab would appear in the inventory that would change the top panel from the armor view to the contents of the backpack, equal to the player's team. The player can only wear one backpack at a time and cannot put the backpack in the backpack. Opening the backpack requires putting it on. In addition, a turtle's backpack would give total defense against back attacks (turtle's shell).
