Yes please add this, this is one of the main reasons why our version of minecraft (PC) is dying. I don't want to be missing out on a community that I didn't get to play for 8 years.

Agree i played minecraft nonstop for about 3 years until the new combat gameplay came out and that was the point were I stopped playing the game. But I still think of the old "noattackcooldown" gameplay that there once was so please take it back because that would get more players into the game once again and it might not die.

Captain Kcaz, many people want it back, we don't love the new because  the old was much more fun. now, the 1.9 system is ruining MC.

  • Avatar

I don't like the idea. Please no, Minecraft is a game of going into the future and trying new things, not keeping it old school! I think the combat overhaul wasn't that bad, you just need a cool down for strong attacks, pretty realistic if you ask me. The old combat system was good, but that doesn't mean it's better, in my humble opinion.

  • Avatar

Nope, the community just needs to suck it up.

I played minecraft for 5 years and played nothing else except of a few io games, but after the 1.9 release I quit minecraft and never came back. So just because of the new combat system the game I loved so much in all aspects (like building, parkour etc. too) I left it forever, praying to god of minecraft that It's a joke and they'd never change the gameplay that everyone loves that much with an update. The other thing is scaring me is minecraft youtube videos, earlier there all were very popular, but now cause of on a lot of the PVP servers like Hypixel staying on the same version, cause they can't change to the further version and the new pvp system the community doesn't like. Also I know a lof of people that leaved minecraft because of the update too and they all love every other update from 1.9 to 1.13 but don't play it cause of the boring and annoying combat system. I still hope old combat'll be returned with the gamerule or in some way in the bukkit and watch for the updates even if I don't play.

    Sorry for my beautifull english...

I have been playing the same version of Minecraft for years, I can't express just how much gratitude I have about hearing that Mojang are going to overhaul the combat system. I am extremely glad that they have noticed our feedback upon the situation and it must have been frowned upon that there was such a great number of players still using versions 1.7/1.8 when they're over 3 years old. I agree with this idea and I think adding a gamerule to switch to previous versions of combat will target more consumers. Speaking on behalf of everyone that is still playing 1.7/1.8, we want to be able to experience the new updates while being able to PvP like we do in 1.7/1.8!

Agreed, but only if it would make the various servers finally update their clients past 1.8

So many building blocks exist now that it makes the pallets from back then look more limited.

Completely on his side, if this combat isnt gonna change, I am another old school minecraft player, who will quit this game :)

Yes, but this option has to come with the restoration of the damage of the weapons in the 1.8 to avoid the ax beeing too op. And in my opinion i think the new skeletons ai and the shield must be removed from survival mode and make it only for pvp servers and adventure maps, but this last one is just my opinion :)

As a creator who creates primarily Minecraft PvP videos, it's really tough to keep my audience interested when I always have to play on an old version. Having the option to turn it back, and have it look and feel just like it did in 1.8 would greatly improve that without the current combat being taken away from people who enjoy the new system.

  • Avatar

Or just go back to the legacy system.. does anyone really enjoy the new one?

I disagree, gaming has evolved and so should we all to get a better more balanced game. The changes that were made in the 1.9 update brought strategy to the game and a much more balanced game.  I understand that MC has a large younger audience but why handicap ourselves with 'spam clicking' to suit a percentage of the community? Just let the servers and anyone else who doesn't like the new system do their own thing and if they can't adapt then so be it, they can stick with old versions. My hope is that the combat system can be even more in depth and complex than it is now with the option for a harder or easier experience depending on skill... I will be happy as long as it's not a speed clicking competition for trigger happy players. Keep the balance and strategy above all else.

Maybe if you add this option or overhaul, make it that when there is 1.7 pvp axes arent more powerful than swords

I agree, but just as a gamerule

I completely agree, the fact that this isnt in the game yet shows that mojang has a lack of an ability to think ahead and take constructive critisism there is no reason for this not to be implemented. the people that are against this have a complete lack of the concept that others might have a different opinion and can prever something other than they may like. the game will not suffer from this addition in any way or form that I can think of

  • Avatar

To be honest, I both agree and disagree, and i'll probably get smited if I say this, but I LIKE the new combat.

Previously it felt like you were just spamming left click and attacking stuff, and that pvp was just a test of "Who could get the first hit", "Who has the best armor", "Who has the best weapons", etc.

This new system actually rewards good timing and going in at the right time for optimal damage, where spamming click is at diminishing returns (less damage) Though I do think a world option would be nice for legacy combat, as it was fun in a chaotic sort of way.

I would also like to state that even if you don't add an option to use legacy combat, that you remove attack cooldowns from tools like pickaxes. I just never saw the point of those.

  • Avatar

I disagree, in 1.9 combat there are many items, enchantments and cool mechanics that couldn't exist in 1.8 combat

Add a energy bar instead of a cool down bar, this idea is based from minecraft story mode season two's combat system. I think the same mechanics should apply for the actual minecraft combat. The energy would decrease if you click left click or jump and increase if you stop attacking. This would allow everyone to attack the way they want to, so that 1.8ers would spam click until their bar is empty or low, and 1.9ers would still get the option to wait a little while between each attack, a full energy bar is an equivalent to 5 spam clicks.

I honestly do not understand how anyone could be against this... there is literally no downside to adding a new /gamerule command :)

PvP players get what they want, and PvE players also get what they want!

  • Avatar

I want 1.8 pvp, I dont want any substitutions, please add a legacy combat.

Honestly an option for the change of combat or even a game rule doesn't fit minecraft at all. Combat is one of the most important feature in the entire game and no optional can't fix that. Mainly game rules are used for experiments and maps not for main features to the game, it is known that combat needs changed but options aren't the answer. Honestly, combat needs a whole new overhaul because some features in 1.8 and 1.9 are awesome. Some people just want the cool down removed, some people want shields, some people want spam clicking, some people like strategy etc. Combat can be changed to let all people chose, for example: right clicking could change the style you want for swords, like two styles: Heavy and Fast Attqcks! Fast Attacks lets you spam but with less damage, heavy attacks have the cool down with an increased attack. Maybe you would find a way to switch between the two during a fight to have an advantage against your opponent, without having to go through your options or typing in a gamerule and dying from your enemy. Think about everyone's feelings and whats best for the game, don't just think about PvP, everyone has their own thoughts and feelings for combat and the game.

  • Avatar

That would be nice, but the problem is that if you were to go to a multiplayer game some people would have one form of combat and others would have other forms, and then in PvP it would be very unfair for some players in different circumstances. If Minecraft makes a new combat update and makes sure the majority of the community enjoys it, that may be a smarter move.

This option to revert back to 1.8 combat mode would be very useful for content creators and players. To have a way to change this allows every minecrafter their own style for playing the game. This would bring new options to map & content creators for duel challenges as well as allowing players to choose how they want to interact with the mobs in their single player world.

I think if it was a gamerule set in the world it would work better than if it was a setting because it being universal would make server that has the new combat system on would need to disable the button so you can't have the 1.8 pvp so you win at all matches against 1.9 and you would have the shields textures off which would get you banned

Honestly people should stop whining about the +1.9 combat, it's not going away. However I do feel as though it s a big step down from older combat. It set up the potential for lots of custom weaponry to be made by editing code and whatnot, but yet many people are discouraged from updating due to the fact that it's an entirely different system. I honestly feel that the option to enable/disable certain combat features should be an unofficial serverside plugin as opposed to just dogging Mojang to remove the new combat.

Because honestly, the 1.9 changes to combat provide a lot of potential for making new things. Like a dagger that attacks crazy fast but deals minor damage. Or some kind of huge hammer that has pitifully slow swing speed, but crazy damage if it hits. Just because mojang didn't implement these things doesn't mean we can't, attack damage and speed can be modified easily if you know how commands work. It's just that so many people don't want to adapt to the new mechanics. I honestly can't blame them, I hate the attack speed mechanic that swords and most tools now have. Though still, it's not like a similar change was made to bows in beta 1.8. Outside of that, most other changes to combat are relatively unintrusive at worst. Dual wielding items (though not weapons) is part of the new combat, though not entirely mandatory.

I honestly feel that the community should just learn to try and adapt to the changes, or at least make unofficial ways to circumvent interference with regular pvp. Especially with regards to the fact that so many popular servers use API that slingshots the version back to release 1.8 at the expense of so many new features that would help in other areas. It's such a shame that most people just want to sit back and grieve as opposed to try and move forward. Though I can't really blame them, this is the same community that would complain about roses being retextured into poppies.

This is very much needed. Adding a toggle allows the players who prefer the new combat to not be frustrated by this change, and players who have been playing legacy PvP for years to reminisce in good old times and enjoy the days of fast paced PvP.

If you're concerned at all about the learning curve of having two entirely separate methods of combat, don't be. This is literally simplified to bounding box changes that should be reverted regardless, & spam clicking. It's as simple as a spam clicking on/off toggle.

If you want people to stop straining their hands to click faster just make holding LMB&Aiming on an entity give you something that looks like having 12 clicks per second, so it`ll fix everybodys anger of tryharding too much. Also it`ll leave other types of clicking that are perfect for everyone.

    Like butterflyclicking:

It makes your aim worse and more interesting to play with ✓ (that`s what players want)

It has the point to do just to take less knockback ✓

To do it you must relax your hand= enjoy the game without raging ✓ (Isn`t how people enjoy the game the most important for the developers?)

Also if you want fighting to require more skill then just teach people to use 1.8 block! You need to block at the tick where you get the damage so you don`t have to stop hitting but if you time it right you`ll also decrease the damage and knockback.

Also it`s very uncomfortable to create maps with mobs in it when you have to spend a lot of time just to take out the sword, and it`s very hard to aim one of a group of mobs. Like if you have a room with 20 creepers and you suddenly name-tagged some of them you have to get rid of it, but instead of just clicking on him a few times you have the splash and to do it fast you have to shoot him and it`s VERY annoying process for a map creator.

So there`s no point leave the combat system that no multiplayer player likes (and singlplayer guys don`t care about), that takes more skill (it`s really much harder to time enemy`s hit then just to remember a single timing) and differs very much from other games.

Offcourse it`s late but minecraft multiplayer is not completely dead. I hope that`s not what you wanted... Please return 1.8 combat...
