Someone else has suggested this here: Link

The thing that caught my eye is that this suggestion is labeled (or tagged) as "released" - which shocked me, I actually thought they added pausing into the game but forgot to update this post for some reason (seeing as how this is still "under review").

I decided to test this by going on Minecraft (Bedrock edition on Xbox one on the Beta) and turned on ALL experimental features incase one needed to be turned on for this to work. I dropped a plank block on the ground and watched a chicken to see if it would move as well - I pressed the start button and:

The game still doesn't pause, the item continues to hover and spin on the ground and the chicken walked about the area as if the game was not paused. I made sure that both multiplayer game and LAN options in the "create world" settings were turned OFF and pausing is still not working in game.

This leads me to wonder: Was the other post mistakenly given the "released" tag? Are they trying to say they are working on it or close to finishing it? Or are we now being straight up lied to? I genuinely want to know.

Someone did report this as a bug and staff confirmed it is "working as intended". Absolute nonsense as a dev team to stop and be like "hey lets REMOVE the ability to pause"

I think it doesn't make any sense not being able to pause in a singleplayer world. It is really no fun if you get distracted by someone and press the options menu like in java, but the game keeps running. Well, now your dead. PLEASE dear developers, just let us pause the game like it pauses in java when you press esc or something!

Honestly wtf. Such a basic feature... The fact that this is considered working as intended?

At least make it pause when I disable multiplayer in settings please

For me it is not so much a bother why I was doing the achievement of sleeping with the fish and when I got bored I just paused and began to see the achievements of my skins, while the achievement was being made.

This has been a feature in Minecraft Java Edition since 2009, how the fuck is it still not in Bedrock? that’s honestly fucking atrocious

We definitely need that to be implemented however if you want to grow something or do fishing afk and go to do some other work then this is not necessary , just make sure that the spot is spawn free and safe, but yes we definitely need that

Yes! The whole point of pause, like any other game, is that everything stops temporarily until you come back and un-pause. I thought I was safe for 30 minutes, but then something despawned me. Stupid me broke my bed beforehand, so I was put back to world spawn, which was really far away. When I made it back, all the gear was gone. I currently have it "paused" right now, so I guess I better get back before I get blown by a creeper.

Umm this is already a thing you just need to make sure that you turn off multiplayer

Yes I 100 percent agree.  I have learned the hard way to make sure to be in shelter before pausing.  There is no real pause, time still passes and I am not willing to quite, go all the way back to start screen on xbox and start over again ( takes about 15 minutes) just to take a fast break.  We desperatly need a real pause button.

Didn't realize they'd removed this feature. It used to pause the game if multiplayer was disabled on a world.

There’s literally no reason for it to work like this. Just let me pause.

The fact that the lack of pausing has plagued BE for almost 10 YEARS and the developers outright refuse to add it despite how important it is for a game like Minecraft is VERY upsetting. Suspending the game is ESSENTIAL when you have to quickly step away from the game to do something as nearly all the time you're left in a vulnerable position. You either have to go out of your way to find/dig out a safe area to AFK or quit the world and join back between 2 prolonged loading screens. It's a huge hindrance you have to put up with Every. Single. Time you need to step away from the game. It's outrageously inconsiderate and incredibly tedious.

How is this still ongoing after 3 years??
One reason I barely play Minecraft, I have a little baby, I need to be able to pause a game at the press of a button to be able to attend, at any time of the day. If it doesn't have that feature, I'll just play another game. Even games from the 1980s had this. You get a delivery at the door you don't yell, hold on, I'm digging a hole and blocking myself in, just wait a minute. You need to be able to pause a game. It's a basic as you need working taps in a house. Without it, it's a malfunctioning framework.

This needs to be fixed.  Now that Java Edition is broken for all but the beefiest of machines, only Bedrock is performant enough to be playable.  Except that without a workable Pause in single-player mode it is not playable at all.  For now I can't realistically play Minecraft at all.

the END of 2021 and we STILL have no way to actually pause the game short of "save & Quit."  This is ridiculous. Pressing escape is VERY VERY mis-leading. ANY gamer would expect that menu to pause the game as it brings up a menu. The fact that it doesn't, and the fact that Microsoft doesn't care enough to fix it is also stupid. Just one more reason to stick to java 90% of the time.   I would get it if all i really was, was the multiplayer option being turned on by default, but if with multi-player off it STILL won't pause. Very lame on Microsoft's part if you ask me. But then again, Bedrock was really just created as a money grab by Microsoft anyway, since mods and stuff for Java are free.

This idea is awesome! When i play the trial version of Minecraft Windows 10 edition, if i pause the game, the timer still goes down.

Wasn’t pausing removed from the 4J studios edition, then left out in the “Better Together” update? Why was it removed?

The fact this feature is still missing is unacceptable. Even if it was added 5 years ago that would have been an unacceptable amount of time the game went without a basic, day one feature.

They can do it just like Java Edition, turn off Multiplayer Mode to pause game.

This should definitely be a immediate change. I know it takes time but I'm sure it is a minor tweak in the code. Great Idea.

The highest-selling videogame of all time.
One of the largest corporations in the world.
    Incapable of adding pause feature.

i second this many players would be very happy especially with this new update coming out.its not fair that Jav players have this feature but not bedrock players. its even more wild that the old xbox 360 and ps3 allowed players to pause the game so why not these newer and better versions. i refuse to play this game until Pausing is available because i can't be bothered to dig a hole or run home before taking care of more important needs in my real life that suddenly arises.

I literally just bought an Xbox one and a copy of bedrock edition only to find you can't pause! Absolutely ridiculous, and really quite infuriating to be honest!!! Wish I hadn't have bothered now!

Worlds we created should have a offline option and if it a thing then we should be able to pause. Were human we need a restaurant lunch break and we shouldn’t just exited our world.

The thing is that in bedrock edition, it is possible to join others, if you are friends, or if you are on the same Wi-Fi. Because of that I don’t think they will add the feature to the game.
Example: I am playing alone and I pause to eat. Then one of my friends join. At that point my single player world would now be a multiplayer world. And because of that the pause button will not help.
But with that said, I still think they should add it if you are playing without Wi-Fi. Because people can’t join if there is no Wi-Fi.
