Please revert the minecart stacking. It is a very useful feature that was unnecessarily made more difficult.

The new minecart changes are super fun to mess around with! One thing I noticed was that after launching yourself near max speed (1000 bps gamerule), the minecart loses all momentum once it stops gaining height. You can get some crazy launches though!

Also, can default minecart speed be 16 instead of 8? Part of the issue with minecarts is their abysmal speed in comparison to every other mode of transport

Minecart stacking is a very useful feature that is used a lot in redstone and other stuff. This change doesnt prevent it, only making it very hard to setup and only angers a lot of people.

    Please revert the changes.

Please revert this! Being able to stack minecarts is incredibly useful, and the way that stacks of TNT minecarts behave, such as the extra explosion strength you get from the velocity, is the best thing about them and makes them quite the deadly weapon and sets them apart from regular TNT. Without that behavior, they are pretty much useless. Minecart behavior was perfectly fine before this change.

Howdy! I'm one of the players that adores rail transport and rail related redstone. I love the proposed changes, and I think that building onto the minecart changes is an excellent idea

I see other people don't enjoy the minecart stacking removal, and i think that part will stand alone as the major controversial aspect of these changes. On paper it has a good purpose, preventing minecarts from launching in different directions when traveling, but many players enjoy using that property as I'm sure you'll see. I think a good workaround to appease the people who like, and don't like the change would be to have a way where you can crouch and place them to prevent them moving (if reasonably possible to implement)

The ability to turn off derailing is MASSIVE for rail networks, and will make it much less of a headache in the future (as there was no reliable way to slow down to avoid it before).

The main addition I would like to see is a way to toggle the powered and unpowered states of rail turns. The directional nature of rails makes it very tedious, and sometimes impossible, to construct very specific builds and turns that are perfectly possible in other orientations.

Perhaps turns could be right clicked with a pickaxe to be able to set the "Powered" and "Unpowered" turns, to give players more freedom in how they build railways.

Thanks for giving minecarts and rails some love! They are one of my favorite parts of the entire game

My jaw dropped when i saw the new minecart movement changes, it's something i was hoping to see in the game forever. I'm really hoping to see more reasons so use minecarts late game in the future, 'cause they're just the best!
And as a resource pack maker, the new redstone torch look is Awesome!! It really looks like what the original design was trying to achieve. Seeing old designs been given a fresh, new and better look is always very cool and exciting!

Amazing new snapshot, keep up the great work!!

This change just removes gameplay features without adding an alternative and it breaks every contraption involving carts in existence, please dont add this to the game

While some of these changes are welcomed, such as the customizable movement speed and the option to face the direction the minecart is moving, the majority break many cart based storage and transport systems. Removing snapping is one of the major culprits of this, but the movement changes also affect these systems.
Another potentionally problematic change is the removal of easily stacking minecarts, which are used for achieving entity cramming and in traps to name a few.
The technical Minecraft community is very vocal in our circles and universally agree that these changes do not improve, and instead break many many working systems.

Please connect closer to the tmc community and carefully decide which changes are beneficial and which need to be reverted.

There are some good ideas and some not so good ideas with this:

    The ones I like:

    • No cart derailing and better interpolation: step in the right direction, good change.
    • Carts can now jump better: also neat, makes rollercoasters better
    • Accessibility setting for cart rotation: nice and good that its off by default
    • Cart max speed gamerule: also good but the default should be made higher in my opinion since you removed the alternative that was piston bolts

    Now for the bad changes:

    • Carts always snapping to the middle of the block: really bad change, breaks cart yeeting, would like this to go back to before
    • Not being able to easily stack carts with dispensers: not sure why this had to change, just makes it much more annoying and breaks things like fast unloaders

Overall I think it's good but I think you still have to tweak it so that we don't lose half our existing tech and I don't think those tweaks would be particularly difficult. Still, thank you for putting this forward to the community

with these changes a lot and i mean a lot of people are gonna be angry at you guys mind you angry again because you have done a lot of unwanted things to the game. Please just revert/ don't add the changes especially to Redstone, Redstone should be kept like it is your new system will brake basically everything.

I love the vertical momentum being kept off slopes and being able to change minecart's max speed, please don't take that away. For anything else, I don't really mind if it doesn't come to the game with the problem of contraptions not working. Also, if you're improving minecarts, then it would be really cool to see more new things involving them because right now they're kinda pointless due to other faster and more efficient transport available.

When the minecart is in the air, the drag halts their movement. I think you should remove the drag so when minecarts start launching, they fall more smoothly and farther.

I think it is quite complicated to match the minecart with late game travel modes like elytra. However, maybe you can improve the base speed to 16 m/s and add different types of minecarts created with different ingots: copper minecart (less acceleration, speed ~24 m/s, oxidizes and its characteristics vary), gold minecart (super low acceleration, but speed ~32 m/s), etc.

Please revert this. Making minecart stacking way harder helps nobody. It just hurts the technical community. Also, breaking piston bolts is a really big change! I mean, basically every technical community uses them extensively for item transport and player transport because theyre the fastest afk option. Getting rid of piston bolts is a really big deal, so I kindly ask that you revert these changes.

These changes break most of redstone. The changes are unnecessary in most cases. If anything, revert the changes and fix carts purely visually, but don’t change any mechanics

Make flying minecarts dependent on a specific rail type, a launcher rail for example that enables this new behavior. This allows for the new mechanic and keeps old mechanisms functional.

Add a new way to power up existing powered rails (maybe by waxing them to add lubrication, this could have 4 stages similar to a repeater) could be a way to improve their usefulness while not breaking existing contraptions.

Unwaxed powered rail - 8 bps max (unchanged)
    1 wax -12 bps
    2 wax - 16 bps
    3 wax - 20 bps

Wax can be added via right clicking a placed rail or by shapeless crafting it onto the rail.

I always wanted minecarts to be updated and made relevant again (especially since the addition of the cool, but over-powered elytra). These are good changes (the new physics are great), but it's not enough to make rail transport attractive in late-game. First, furnace minecarts should be upgraded to give advantage on powered rails. Second, minecart chaining should be much more consistent to allow creating trains. I am sure many other improvements could be introduced. Maybe some new kind of rails would be fitting (without making the present ones useless)? Or perhaps the furnace minecart should be replaced with something similar but better at its task?

In my opinion, improving old parts of the game is the way to go. It's really sad that some features (like, until today, minecarts) feel forgotten and replaced by new features or simply abandoned as secondary parts of the game (that happened to some structures). Once again, good job with this one! I hope people will start building rollercoasters like they used to.

I think you can simply speed up minecarts several times without breaking everything and solving the problem of lack of demand for transport, but if you change other physical properties - you will definitely break everything on existing maps, on the railroad of which years were spent. Personally, I wrote a datapack that speeds up minecarts, and does not break the rest of the physics. Something similar is needed, but more optimal, from the point of view of performance, nothing more.

I have just now played through the snapshot and personally greatly enjoy the changes to Minecarts! The Accesability Option to turn with Minecarts (At least in my own opinion) should default to on, but still be made available for particularly motion sick users, I feel that Minecarts should be sped up by a bit by default as it would create more of an incentive to create more extensive Minecart systems for the transportation across a Base or otherwise between several points you frequent (I would likely be using it to visit my friends, considering I typically try to find a perfect spot!)

Otherwise, in my semi-professional opinion, I greatly enjoy it!!

FINALLY Minecarts are getting updated for the first time in ten years!

I think those changes are really Great. I love the minecart jumping and the max speed game rule, it makes them more fun and actually useful.

Minecart stacking being removed is slightly sad, I personally don't mind it that much unlike many others here but it does break some things and I don't really see many benefits from preventing stacking. Reconsider that part.

I also want to suggest making the powered rail recipe cheaper (for example make it use copper instead of gold?) or at least make the rail recipes craft more rail (32 instead of 16?). Minecarts are a mid-game travel method however they're way too expensive for that, you need 375 gold ingots to build a 1000 block track, which is a LOT of gold because it's quite rare, but that amount does seem fair for copper!

My last suggestion is making the default max speed higher, like 12 or 16, but at the same time make minecarts slow down on turns. Speed of 16 would be great for transportation i think but at the same time it looks weird on turns.

Mojang please read my comment thank you i love you also add data driven blocks than kyou gododbye

This is a better experiment than the redstone changes but it needs a some key tweaks.

    1. Give us back minecart stacking (I am curious as to why this was removed)

    2. Minecarts should not be forcibly locked to the max speed set in the world this should be reverted to as it was before where max speed applied only to powered rails and slopes. The reason piston bolts are fun is because they are fast, and no one can accidentally build one so who cares if its a bug it was fun and harm free.

    3. The main problem is the speed, make the default minecart speed at least 16m/s

    4. Give furnace minecarts an inventory (please my boy needs love)

Please revert the rail snapping alignment "fix" at the very least. Within the storage tech and farm communities, being able to align falling carts in order to instantly break the cart and drop all of its contents is a huge mechanic that makes chest and hopper minecarts far more viable at scale than traditional unloaders (among many other applications that rely on the admittedly quirky behavior rail snapping entails). The way that carts now center themselves in a block on a rail eliminates those possibilities and makes things way worse than the current system.

Minecart stacking as well also would be nice to revert if possible. It's a bit frustrating that it's harder to work with than currently. Others have articulated those frustrations better than I can, though

Those currently are the biggest critiques I've seen from technical communities. While the other changes will require lots of changes to existing builds, that's a different matter than completely eliminating certain functionality.

I am really enjoying the new changes, especially the camera feature. However, with the new physics, I noticed that furnace mine carts have been broken even more.

I really hope you guys consider improving furnace mine carts. They can link together in vanilla, but unfortunately it's not very reliable. The linkage breaks going around turns or slopes, so it can only go straight.

With the new physics, they don't link period. Furnace mine carts could easily go from the most obsolete to the single most useful mid-game transport block by making the link system more reliable (allow it to go around turns or slopes without breaking)

Please consider improving the furnace mine carts :(
