I want to start this doff by thanking Mojang for finally getting around to releasing next generation versions of Minecraft on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. I am currently writing up an in-depth analysis of every version, but with the release on the PS5 Preview last night here are some observations.
• Minecraft PS5 has no 120hz support. Outputs at 1080p60 or 2160p60 with VRR. No 1440p mode, downsamples 2160p @ 1440p. Same as on PS4. Xbox always runs at 2160p60 now regardless of output resolution.
• Upscaling and Ray Tracing are currently inaccessible
• 36 chunk render distance vs 28 through PS4 BC
• Audio issues with prolonged play. Music and sound effects progressively sound worse.
• More TNT explosions can go off at once compared to PS4 BC or Any Xbox version.
• Crashes less. When the game runs out of memory instead of crashing immediately an error occurs and the game displays ~17592186043561mb of available memory before crashing.
• PS5 has 8gb of available memory displayed like Series X|S. PS4 and PS4 BC use 4gb.
• PS5's framerate is less stable than playing through PS4 BC but is more stable.
• Changing PS5 resolution mid-game doesn't change game resolution until Minecraft is restarted
I'm going to grab some footage later and throw up some comparisons, but I have work very soon! If you found any other differences let me know! Let's give enough proper feedback so Mojang can make the PS5 version the best yet! Also, can we get 120fps Minecraft on console Mojang? :D
