Updated 'Servers Tab' Experience in Bedrock Preview

The latest Bedrock Preview introduces a new way of playing on Featured Servers and others of your own. You will get to enjoy Featured Servers from our partners with exclusive environments, in a new visual style.

Some other features in this new design are the Server Activities and News.

You will also be able to add and edit your own custom server, setting all the parameters needed to invite your friends and have an enjoyable experience!

Changes:

  • Play Screen/Servers Tab is being updated with improved navigation, and a new look and feel that matches the new style in the screens. It’ll be rolled out gradually across Android, iOS, Windows, and Xbox in the following days.

We’re still working on some things, like support for other platforms, and some minor bugs and improvements.

We need some more time to work on these features in order to provide the best possible experience.

We would love to hear what you think! Share your feedback on the Feedback Site and put “Servers Tab” in the title so we can find it.

    Custom servers should be added to Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.

    I really love the new UI, but currently it is missing exacting ping numbers and the MOTD, both of which are very useful. Also I don't know if this is possible, but custom page things for non-featured servers would be cool

    Featured Servers should be sorted based on the last time you played (e.g. The Hive is placed on top because you played it most recently)

    'Low ping' should have a toggle option to show the raw number like the old UI

    The scrolling experience of worlds on new ui in touch devices is not good. An addition of a scrollbar will be great.

    There should be a list for servers you have been banned on, including featured servers.

    MOTD should be visible again, especially for the custom servers.

    It may not be really necessary for featured servers since they have exclusive pages with server description, activities etc but custom servers literally have nothing visible in the menu.

    There should be a button/toggle to collapse the server groups for both custom and default servers.

    I have some issues with the servers tab:

    Favicons in the left are squished versions of banners, but I would like to see favicons being cropped version of banner or using different images instead of being squished.

    Will LAN servers (the auto-searching one, not custom servers) be accessible in the future? Because I cannot find "LAN servers" in either this or friends tab. I think it's best to be put there.

    Otherwise the new Server tab UI would look very cool.

    I love the new UI but I think you should add something to it as well. As a Server host myself I think I can speak for a lot of us when I say you should really add it so that custom servers can have their own news/activities/MOTD menu page on the side as well. I'm sure there would be concerns about people using it to perform inappropriate things like inappropriate images, words, etc. but just as any platform would have I'm certain you can easily set up restrictions and/or ways to report inappropriate activities. Doing this would definitely help you grow your online server community, so that people that aren't into downloading unnecessary apps and using a bunch of websites just to stay up to date with their favorite servers. I propose a way to do this is to either set it up through the bedrock dedicated server files you provide or find a way to do it through Minecraft bedrock itself, or possibly a better/easier/more organized way to do it would be to make a separate app just for customizing such parts of one's server (something like "Minecraft BDS Menu Editor" as like a title for the app).

    Maybe there could be seamless server portals like in Immersive Portals? When configuring, the updated servers tab would show up.

    The Server Address and Server Port on External Servers should be hidden by default.

    The new server list is great, but I have a few suggestions:

    • Allow adding custom servers on consoles
    • Clicking on the "Low ping" icon should toggle between the text, the actual ping number, and displaying them both side-by-side
    • Make a "Favorite Servers" list that appears above featured servers, and players can add servers (featured or custom) to their favorites list.
    • In the server list, add an icon that shows how many friends are online.  In the server details, show the names of your friends on that server. (for example "Steve is online" or "Steve, Alex, and 1 other are online"

    New look is a lot cleaner than the old look, this new UI needs to be released on all platforms at some stage

    - Negatives

    Doesn't say exact ping on the servers page

    Unrelated to this, but you need to add the ability to add custom servers on all platforms Minecraft bedrock is available on. As it's boring playing the same old servers over and over.

    That's about it overall new UI is definitely an improvement.
