I think the probability has to be more low

Maybe they could even be based off the classic villages but destroyed in some way (maybe the suspicious gravel would generate in the paths)

Surprised with a better idea than the "Ancient Ruins Excavation" I posted

The ruined villages need to have a bigger potential for dig sites.

I think taking the already existing abandoned villages and tying them in with archaeology somehow would be really cool, maybe some unique item or item variant can be found in them as well through that. They're pretty rare to come across, but most of the time there's really never much incentive to go to one since there isn't really much there of value. Maybe some sort of item or variants of pre-existing items that change depending on what biome the abandoned village is in & tells a little more story as to maybe why the village was abandoned in the first place.

The idea of Villagers trying to interact with Archaeology's features is interesting, but this specific proposition isn't.

The most important thing is that the found items should depend on the type of house and its inhabitants.
    - In the seedbeds you can find tools and/or rare plant seeds.
    - Under the foundations of the church there are bottles, potions, blaze rods, etc.
    - Under the smith's shop there will be armor, swords, etc.

Also for regular villages you can add 1-2 abandoned houses where you can do excavations. You can also add a Well at the bottom of which will be a variety of things that were accidentally dropped.
The well can be either in a residential or in an abandoned village *

Another option is another abandoned village, whose foundations are completely or partially underground. Only small pieces of walls will stick out of it, thanks to which you can find this village. The player will have to remove the earth, open up the floor and start excavating to find out what happened.

(Copy and Paste this in Desp!!!) As of the recent snapshot archeology can only be done around the desert wells and desert temples. Similar to the smithing templates, archeology should be done around different structures too. We would need a ancient structure though, and the two structures which could be classified "ancient" are the Jungle Temples and Ocean Ruins. You would need to add more than just suspicious sand though, because random blocks of sand wouldn't look all to well with dirt and gravel. A solution would be to add suspicious dirt and suspicious gravel and then sprinkle them around the ancient structures. With these new blocks we can have pottery shards uniqe to the structure making pots more customizable. The last thing I have in mind is ancient villages. These villages would be the remains of the ancient builders villages in which they lived in many hundreds of years ago. With a structure like ancient villages they could be havens for archeology. with suspicious gravel, dirt, and sand everywhere along with ruined and buried stone and mud houses. unqi or all shards could be found here. As your digging you can dig up the story of what happened there and why they were ruined or abandoned. Along with brushing, you could find buried houses and rooms with loot inside and possible treasure maps and structure maps to mineshafts, temples, strongholds and more. With the ruined houses, there could be a in game reference on how to make golems similar to the ruined portal.

how about instead of that, just revamp abandoned villages

We already have the abondoned village in the game but it's pretty much just a vanity structure so I agree that they should get some archeology spots, maybe some specific archeology loot dedicated to them so the player has an incentive to seek them out

Maybe only they could generate in desserts, mountains and plains varieties

Should be rarer, and be able to generate partially or fully underground

Nice! More places need these blocks, honestly. Maybe have one Sniffer spawn deep underneath one!

I think it would be cool if suspicious sand and gravel could be found in zombie villages. While I think Zombie villages are cool, this would give players more to do in them.
