Armor Trims is an amazing addition, and it was needed for a long time. But I see a missed opportunity to also add stat modifiers with it. Some people like to express themselves aesthetically, some with stories... but also some of us like to express ourselves with unique stat builds, if armor trims gave stat buffs aswell, it would be very fun and interesting for multiplayer servers or adventure maps

Diamonds finally have an extended use! I think that's great.
It would be great if the "armor trims" were very rare.
So that there is finally something that takes hours and hours to get a set.
While the ability to multiply these "trims" with diamonds is a great feature, you only have to find each "trim" once. That could make it boring again because once found and done, you never have to search for it again and it becomes junk and takes up inventory space when you find it.

I think the upgrade from diamond tools to netherite is great! so there is a challenge.

I'm really excited to see where this "custom update" will take us, so far I'm very happy with it and looking forward to the update!

    ---

This snapshot still has chat reporting, therefore it is a bad snapshot.

Armor trims are amazing, but this netherite change is awful. Netherite may be to easy to get, but I normally play on severs with friends and this change makes it where you basically now need 7 diamonds and 2 netherite every time you want to upgrade your gear. I like more incentive to go to bastions, but they are too rare for this change to work on servers with multiple people. All this does is increase the time you have to mine to upgrade to netherite, and I personally find mining for netherite an already boring task. What I think would make this better is if the netherite template didn't get used up when you upgrade, then people would still have to go to bastions, but it won't double the cost of netherite gear.

EDIT: Apparently it only takes 7 diamonds and a netherack to make a second netherite upgrade. That most certainly better than I thought it was. I wish the made it more clear on the update page that it took netherack.

This snapshot has caught me off guard and I appreciate the effort to do and test things like this. First of all, it's a great idea that you have to visit the monuments around the map and collect pieces to design your armour to your liking. But why should I, as a player, keep raiding structures where you get relics "left by the ancients" only to use them and lose them forever (erasing little by little what those people kept) and destroying the supposed history just because there is always more? I don't think it's right and that's why only the durability of the netherite template should be left. For the other templates, there should be a permanent pattern version like the ones that already exist for banners. From these patterns, infinite templates could be crafted with special objects that you can find in "abundance" in structures or with infinite methods but very little productivity (example: the ocean monument template could be made by surrounding with 8 nautilus to a pattern of this type (something more original I ask)). That's the main problem with templates.

I think the trim templates shouldn't be consumed when adding trim to an armor piece. I think they should be reusable like banner patterns instead.

I suppose that you will make some templates for weapons and tools so maybe, if this really going to be like a first part for combat update, I recommend that you rethink what people ask for to put an effect on the templates. From my point of view, not all templates should have effects, but if by chance you add a strength to that object, must have a weakness. With this I want to drop that you have enchantments that exist only for very specific things and if you really want to increase some difficulty factors, you should develop that part of enchanting weaknesses. There will always be a better option for each situation and perhaps just for this reason people would be more encouraged to explore any structure that you add. Therefore it would be a wonderful idea to have weaknesses and strengths in these artifacts (and also that they are not affected by the material (color) added, but by the magic of that template).

I would love to see another way of obtaining the netherite templates like an rng from piglin trading.

Also, I think that wandering traders could sell armor trims rarely. I really like this new addition to the game.

I think trimmings should be added for tools as well! It'd be really nice visually, as well as useful! For example, using different trims could help you pick your silk touch pickaxe with just a glance inside your chest.

Just to report a convenience for users and I don't know where it could be ported: please put an explanation (copypaste) of how to play the snapshot in the launcher and in each snapshot. If you are used to something, you should always think about how someone who does not know anything would do. I, saying this because as a fully functional adult ("maybe") it take around half an hour to figure out how to do something that you are taken for granted (make the snapshot work), which is a problem, especially if you value feedback or ideas so much.

Thank you for your work anyway :)

This update is fantastic and does what it's supposed too with player expression!

The issues I see are the z fighting on the sides of the items, there should also be compatibility with gold trims making piglins peaceful towards the player.

i really love the idea of trims for customization, as it would be so awesome to be able to make unique armor sets, however, i think the netherite upgrade temperate is ridiculous. it's already hard enough to mine ancient debris, and the process for that makes netherite worth it on its own. adding this would make it way too expensive and time consuming. also, i don't totally disagree with using diamond in the crafting recipe for the templates, but 7 is a lot, especially if you would want to have lots of options on hand constantly and be able to change your armor frequently like i would.

It looks great aesthetically but the new armor customization system isn't compatible with dyed armor which makes you choose between either the old or new system. This makes an otherwise very cool system less cool :(.

I love this! It makes smithing table useful. It's boring that everyone looks the same in Minecraft, and trims can help personalize players. I'm hoping pets like horses/wolves will have such customizations too!

I also hope that we can alter the stats of our armor with the smithing table, like adding movement speed, magic, or other builds. It doesn't have to be too overpowered, but having different builds for different players will be fun. I feel like progression in Minecraft is too short. Getting enchanted diamond gear is too easy, and I hope there's more upgrade paths, and sidegrades.

Wandering traders need to sell unique trim patterns and whatnot. They really need unique items to sell to give them value.

I like that each area now has unique trim loot, but I hope they're not too rare. On mobile I'm often reluctant to explore outside my base, seeing how each exploration attempt bloats my game's file size. Either the file size needs to be reduced sonehow, or add a way to explore Minecraft without bloating the save file, like temporary randomly-generated dimensions to explore. The woodland mansion's 4.8% chance of getting the armor trim is horrendous and I'd have to spend over 10GB of my world file size to find it.

I love that enchant effects are more subtle. The harsh purple glow is too much, and it made everyone look the same. I hope there's a setting to lower the player's potion particle effects while standing still. It often blocks my view while screenshotting and whatnot.

I think that the snapshot is amazing for armor being customizable and also fixing netherite's value. I for starters, think that duplicating trimming patterns should be a bit cheaper as currently it is as expensive as duplicating netherite upgrades and will most likely, not encourage players to customize their armor as the template is a valuable resource and is expensive to duplicate. My other suggestion is that glow ink sacs should be used for the armor patterns as well, I think players would really express themselves with glowing features on their armor and would give glow ink sacs another use. As usual, this snapshot is really cool, keep up the great work Mojang!

I think smithing template  should be infinitely usable.Otherwise, players need to spend a lot of time exploring. That would be a very bad gaming experience for players. And it will also have a bad gaming experience for realms players.Because after entering the realms, players will need to find a lot of Fortressin order to create a set of Netherrites weapons, tools and equipment

I think armor trims are great, but the netherite ones are too expensive, maybe add durability for them, so we could repair them with mending?

I love the idea of it all, but I do believe the golden trims should appease the piglin's fashion statements. I know the whole purpose of it all is just to add aesthetic, but some abilities wouldn't hurt, like copper trim reducing lightning damage, redstone trim glowing red(the glow squid kind of glow) while standing on powered redstone, and netherite trim either prevents the item from burning or reduces knockback slightly. etc. etc.

I don't know, its just an idea, but then again, "neither man nor nation can exist without a sublime idea" -Fyodor Dostoyevsky

The dupe recipe could maybe be tweaked to match their textures? It looks like they are mostly made of the relevant material block with a small amount of diamond for the middle design. It seems to make more sense if the material block and diamond were switched in the recipe (material surrounding 1 diamond).

Smithing template duplicates should use amethyst instead of diamonds because amethysts don't have enough uses to make them exciting but diamonds do.

Enchantment glow is very hard to notice especially on diamond tools/weapons, making difficult to differentiate enchanted items from non enchanted ones. Definately an acessibility issue. Maybe a enchantment glow intensity slide bar on the acessibility options could resolve the issue.

For the glint i definetly understand that some users do like it more tame but to me its barely visible even at 100%. Id prefer it if either 100% is how it was in the previous versions and now by default its just at 50% or that the bar can go up to 200% now which should be the same as in the previous versions (or maybe even more letting the old standard stand at 150% for example)
Espacially since its about accessibility i think there should be an option to make it more visible too so people with not so good eye sight can see the glint too

This is a great snapshot, making armor trims easier to obtain, and adding new ways to customize the character's appearance through mixing dye. One suggestion I have is instead of making netherite upgrade items that have to be found in bastions, players could upgrade without the template, but find netherite less frequently while mining.

Other than that, the features in this snapshot are really great. I'm looking forward to seeing more Armor Trims features in the future!

new glint is toooooooo bad. it make hard to compare enchant items, enchanted goldenapple, etc.
I just want to adjust glint in glint-related setting menu. I think this idea is too bad.

Could we have a way to apply a tag to items to signify what damage type the item uses? you could then, for example, make a custom sword that dealt low amounts of health but large amounts of hunger exhaustion.

I still don't know why Minecraft lowered its exposure to glint. This problem is like a patch decided at will without considering existing users, even though it can be sufficiently solved with a slide of settings.
